Why is it that I'm surrounded by people who get thrilled, sometimes to such a highly elevated degree that it can't be described in a family-friendly forum (#I'llHaveWhatShe'sHaving), when gas goes down 2 cents and yet won't bother to bend over and pick up 2 pennies if they see them laying on the sidewalk? Because, they say, it's just two cents and it's a worthless amount of money. I know some of you are saying, "Sir, I always buy at least ten gallons, so I'm saving at least 20 cents. So, Checkmate, Sir." Well, OK. If that's the best you can do, it is what you should do. But 20 cents doesn't seem to me, on the grand scale of things, a whole lot more useful than 2 cents. Even if you get ten gallons every week for an entire year, it only comes to a savings of $10.40. To me, that's a lot of money because I'm just barely a multi-trillionaire (It's not my fault. I had to take a Vow Of Poverty to get my Saint Side Hustle) but it's not much to most people. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have so many bigly grown-up expenses. Beer, baseball cards and lap dances don't grow on trees, you know. But you didn't get all dressed up and come all this way to hear about my economic woes. So let's get back to the Question Of The Day: Why do so many people get so simultaneously excited and apathetic about 2 cents? At this juncture, many of you are asking, "What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron, Sir? Not get excited when gas prices go down, Sir?" Fair enough. A little rude and impertinent but overall, fair. But I'm still confused because most of the time, the savings don't justify the excitement. And if they do justify it, why the disdain for picking up lost coins that are worth just as much? A clear concise answer would be appreciated. One last thing, ma'am. I know that some people, due to back and/or leg problems can't bend over to pick up lost change. They are graciously excused from this mystery.

I’ll share a little secret with you. This morning when I went to the mailbox I saw four shining pennies lying on the ground. Another lady was at the mail boxes so I bent over and picked up the four pennies. I handed the lady two pennies and brought my two home and put them in my piggy bank, Of course it’s not a piggy bank, it’s a sheep. But it keeps all my pennies.

I love secrets like that. Doubly so when they include sharing. You racked up a lot of Karma points.

@RubyHawk That's the other good thing about picking up change.

That's exactly what TMZ said. It's scary when they're right.

You didn’t get to hear my sermon on that at the meeting this morning. I said, “When you pick up a penny your standard response should be, ‘I’m that much closer to being a millionaire now!’”

You're forgetting that I go over the surveillance videos when I wake up. Sometimes. When I'm in the mood. And I was for this one, so that's my standard response now.
