PS1(Ponniyin Selvan1) movie released on 30th September and I recently saw the movie. This movie is a Tamil language movie dubbed and released in multiple languages and it is based on Kalki's novel by the same name -ponniyin Selvan. The movie is directed by maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam and has an ensemble cast and music by A R Rahman. I found the movie to be engaging and entertaining, however, people who might expect high-octane action and drama as we have seen in recent movies from South India like KGF, RRR, and Pushpa.. might find something a miss. The movie stays true to the essence of the novel and does not try to over-dramatize scenes hence there is clearly some vow factor missing, but probably that is what the intention is from the director. I personally felt the movie had that typical Mani Ratnam complexities of screenplay missing, maybe because he didn't want to divulge from the novel. This may be the most ambitious movie of Mani Ratnam, but to me, this is not his best work..but is watchable once for sure. A R Rahman's music is great as usual and adds tremendous value to the movie. Here is the trailer:

Thanks for the review . If people want violence they can stick to those films and their sequels but a film based on the book should be faithful to the book . That is the strength of the film. I have not seen it yet but I'll see it in a few days.

You are right...PS1 is not another Bahubali or RRR style of period drama, though at the outset it seems so...but it is a very honest adaption of the novel. For me, it was not the mass content or commercial angle that was a miss, but something that we expect or have been used to seeing in Mani Ratnam movies, his layered characters, and dark storytelling, that was a miss. But having said that, it is still a nice movie.

@avi256 Mani Ratnam has a class of his own and his works are always better than average. Looking forward to meeting you in MyLot more often.
