Rights?

People with disabilities just want what everyone else wants, inclusion and equality. "Rights" is not necessarily the best word. Just a fully included and equal world. I don't want to be seen or treated differently. We will have achieved full inclusion when people with disabilities are seen and treated equally, inclusively and without any difference in all aspects of life in the community. There is much that still needs addressing in many areas, but perhaps my small role in His much bigger plan is moving the conversation and action along.

I hate it when someone says, "I have rights!" No, they don't. They have the obligation to get along with others and try to make things better.

You also need to consider realistic expectations. While we do want complete inclusion, different disabilities require different adaptations. And, some of them make it difficult for the disabled person to communicate what they need. One thing that works for all disabilities, is patience and listening. If you can learn to do those things, you're one step closer.
