Shortages coming?

Rupert, Idaho

This couple I watch on YouTube keep talking about shortages that are going to be happening soon. You thought the past 2 years have been bad? Going to just get worse! First there were eggs....yeah 1 dozen here is 5 bucks now! The big five dozen pack is over 20 dollars. Now because of that, mayonnaise has gone up in price a lot too. There may be a diesel shortage. A shortage in carbonated drinks may happen because a plant in Mississippi was contaminated. They even mentioned a shortage in chocolate! Will the madness ever end? I don't want to start anything, I just wonder what everyone else heard...and I need to calm my anxiety. Although the reality really won't calm it I guess...

I believe we will see things we have never seen before. Fertilizer shortages mean less food growing which means less food. Diesel shortages mean fewer means of transporting goods (anything we buy) to the store shelves. Or us getting around in general. Will the madness ever end, in my opinion no, only going to get worse. Praying for your anxiety. That is how I stay calm in the madness, I talk with God, and read His word.

Not being able to get around, that's an even bigger anxiety... Only going to get worse? I don't want to live through that, honestly... Glad that works for you...but I don't believe in god...so that would not work for me.

Eggs were starting to come down to almost $4 a dozen here. If the diesel shortage continues, they could escalate again. Gas prices were coming down, but I see they're going up again.

@just4him Eggs never really dropped in price here...but I bet they will go up more. As everything else. Yes, gas had gone down a bit...but up a lot again

I had to go to Costco yesterday to the pharmacy, so got a few things on the list while I was there. I didn't buy eggs as I have some from my egg lady, but I priced them. If you bought 5 dozen, they ended up being $2.12 a dozen. That's the cheapest eggs I've seen in a long time. The cheapest butter at Costco was $14.29 for 4 pounds. Still way cheaper than the regular grocer, which is at least $5 a pound. I don't go to Walmart, but everyone says they never have any butter or eggs, I guess they are gone as soon as they get them in.

Look at brown eggs. They taste exactly the same as white eggs but are just over half the price. 1 dozen extra large white eggs are $3. 1 dozen extra large brown eggs are $1.89. So stock up on things you think you NEED while the prices are "lower" if you really think the prices will go that high. We bought a bunch of chocolate the day after Halloween and stuck it into our fridge. It will keep over a year in there. You can buy canned soups, meats, pasta and milk powder at today's prices. Ignore the "best by", "use by" and other dates on canned and dried foods. As long as the cans don't start rusting and you keep the dried foods from getting any moisture in them, they will still be good for years. (Those dates on the canned and dried foods are there to make people throw away perfectly good food and buy more when there's no health reason to throw them out.)

@MommyOfEli2013 I live out in the boonies and stores won't sell that much if they try to sell for prices people will pay in big cities. (My city only has 7,000 people and the next big cities are 45 miles and 60 miles away from us.) We always buy chocolate after a big holiday and it usually lasts us a long time.

None of our eggs are under 4 dollars currently. I would buy the brown ones at that price if we had that. We can't really afford to stock up on things, we buy as we need because we don't have that kind of money. If we buy Halloween candy it wouldn't last a year. Lucky if a week lol

@DaddyEvil My city has 5,000 people...so I get it, we live in a similar area. But they still raise the prices a lot. Well that is good it lasts you a long time. If it is in the house I will eat it....even though I know I shouldnt

There are more shortages coming for sure...and the shortage of diesel fuel will only add to the problems of transporting goods that plague us right now.

It wouldnt surprise me the way eveything has doubled and even tripled in price. Everything goes up but the wages stay the same so that makes it hard not to stress about. Ever since covid started life has been getting worse. It is scary.

It is best to be aware so that we can plan ahead. Those who can should start a back yard garden and stock up on some non perishable staples.

@tammys85 That is a good point...I wouldn't be surprised either. Lately there has been a shortage of one of my meds; a shot I take once a week. So sometimes I end up having to go a week or two without it.

I have been hearing about it. That's really going to affect Black Friday and the Christmas Season if we have a big lack of diesel.

Ahh, that explains the price increase in mayo. I just assumed it was due to different issues. I've noticed the huge price increases in carbonated beverages too. It's easier now to point out to the kids that those are treats and not something I'm going to buy all the time when I show them how much they cost as opposed to what they were before. Homemade iced tea and lemonade are still cheap (as long as we can afford the sugar).
• Rupert, Idaho
17 Nov 22
It is crazy the price of mayo, and eggs...Can be up to $5 a dozen here. yeah the sodas have gone up some....and probably more in the coming months. Yeah making your own drinks may be better.

@MommyOfEli2013 I never buy soda. The only one that's been in the house all year long is some Sprite when I had the flu, that my son brought. I drank part of one and I was done. Sodas don't provide any benefits for me, so I don't buy them. For some reason, they were never a big thing for me.

We all need to think ahead on some items if we can, I am not trying to be a doomsday prepper by any means, but it's going to get worse before it gets better. The shortages and high prices are all over the world, not just the US. I have always been frugal, I use leftovers and try to use everything I can use until it's not useful anymore, but this is tough.
• Rupert, Idaho
2 Nov 22
Oh I know it is not just here. and those like me don't have money to buy items ahead like that...can only afford to buy for now...not even that these days. When we can't even afford eggs and mayo then you know it is really bad. I can't imagine living through much more of this....

If we do that we are more doomed than ever. There are reasons and people and causes for what his happening, and we need to be aware of that and make wise choices. Not turn a blind eye and hope for the best doing nothing to make change. Look at the inner cities. They are a disaster. And they are a disaster because people pretend nothing is wrong.

This is due to the ongoing inflation world wide. In my country we rarely have petrol and comes with a higher price in turns. The most expensive item here in my country is the price of sugar. It has gone higher from $1.20 to $2.0

@MommyOfEli2013 The shortages that you mentioned. Deal, maybe, because like all fuel we're not so much in control of it. But, other products like soda, not so much. There are more factories in other states that can produce those goods. Although, coke tried to use the excuse that alumiman shortages was the reason why they weren't selling caffeine free canned coke, despite the obvious demand for it. When in reality, it's kind of seasonal.

@kaylachan well I was just sharing the ones I heard of. I don't want the soda to be short....because I can't live without my zero sugar pepsi lol

This is what happens when the country espouses socialist values and elects people with socialist views. We become the old USSR and people don't have their basic needs met and become poorer, while all the money and power and control is held at the top.
