Kulkuls

Kulkuls are a traditional Christmas sweet that most households make at home These days however they are available in shops. Nice to make it at home as their aroma when they are deep fried fills the air and gets one into a Christmas mood with carols playing in the background. Kulkuls are made from maida (white flour) which is kneaded with egg, milk, water and salt. Tiny balls are made and they are spread on a comb (new comb!!) and pressed and then rolled. They look like worms. They are then deepfried and later sugar coated. Have you started making Xmas sweets? image credit:

I'm glad you specified a new comb is used to make the sweets. I used to make several pans of fudge and bake cookies for the holidays and pass them out to friends as gifts but haven't done that since Covid came to town... I don't need the sweets and friends aren't around anymore.

Even the number of items I make has dwindled. It is just two this season

@allknowing I understand. It feels lonely here at the holidays.

They look like "fried gnocchi". I am sure they are good. I only baked cinnamon cookies for the moment.

They do look like worms and some call them by that name (lol) This Christmas there will be just two - laddoos and cake which I have already made. And yesterday I had visitors and they almost finished the laddoos (lol)

@LadyDuck I am glad you are one of those who truly believes that Christmas is most about creating that aroma that comes through one's kitchens

@allknowing I have bought the classic Panettone, I baked the cinnamon cookies, I will prepare the "yule log" as every year, I cannot prepare it days in advance, the chocolate mousse cannot last weeks.

Sounds yummy, buy looks . I buy many treats. Got gingerbread man Christmas cookies, walnut brownies, vanilla log cake, ordered white chocolate egg nog truffles, Claxton's fruitcake- ate 1 & got another waiting to be opened. Peppermint bark candy, and others nibbles on this month. Happy Holidays!
