Happy Winter Solstice! In this part of the world that was yesterday on Dec, 21st. The winter solstice is the longest night and shortest day of the year. For the next few days it will stay just about dark as long and then slowly start staying lighter, longer. The solstices (winter and summer) and equinoxes (Fall and spring) were also celebrated through history in various cultures. Stonehenge in England is an ancient stone circle that lines up with the sunrise/sunset on the solstices. It's an ancient site, and on the morning of Winter Solstice the British Heritage society that looks after the site live streams - so mom and I watched it - even though it was 1 AM our time it was still fun to see the sun come up between the ancient stones and all of the people there to witness it. Happy longer days ahead! Photo: Pixabay

For us in the southern hemisphere it's the opposite of course. We've just witnessed our longest day.

@FayeHazel They've downgraded Christmas Day temperatures from 41C (105.8F) to 31C (87.8F). 41C would be horrendous.

Oh wow. That makes sense though. The thought of Christmas being a summertime thing is a fun though indeed. Esp. as we are having near record low windchills. -37F , I don't know how to factor the negative temp into C but it's 67 degrees below where water freezes . Ugh.

Thanks! It was cool, sometimes the people attending would turn around and wave at the camera. There wasn't any live audio, instead they played some soothing music quietly, however I did see people with drums.

I would like to go there and witness the sun come up through the ancient stone. I love stuff like that.

I will try to remember to watch the live stream of the summer Solstice. Thank you for letting us know, I didn't know it was possible.
