Onion Soup Is Never For Onion Soup

Looks like we will be having meatloaf for our Christmas dinner on the 14th of January when the fam will have the "time" to actually get together. And it got me to thinking of one of the ingredients we use when we make ours. Going to be a 6-pound meatloaf by the way. Onion soup packets. In our house we always keep these on hand. We use them in the crock pot with meat or use them to make a quick batch of onion dip with sour cream. And yes. We use them for meatloaf. The one thing we have never actually done is turn them into a soup. In fact, I have never even used them in any soup recipe to add flavor. I guess I am wondering if anyone actually uses onion soup packets for onion soup?

Yes, onion soup is a good seasoning for soups, stews and meatloaf. (But I rarely make meatloaf. It's just not a favorite here.)

Gosh. I love meatloaf. I mean, it's a once every other month or so meal. But always welcome on my table.

@DaddyEvil The only thing better than a meatloaf is a meatloaf sandwich. Now that's good eats.

I keep this in my pantry for many dishes. But never for soup. A seasoning packet is how I use this one.

Seems that is the case for almost everyone. Funny how that goes I suppose, but it does add pizzazz to a lot of things, that's for sure.

No worries. It's a great dip and much better than the premade stuff you buy in the store usually.

I am beginning to wonder if anyone does. The vote so far is soup zero and all other things multiples. lol

I’ve never used them for anything other than making French onion dip.

Not only can onion soup be used for meatloaf, it can be used in lots of recipes to add layers of flavor. I have used it for hamburgers, casseroles, french dips, stews, meatballs, green bean casserole, Salisbury steak and other recipes that are not coming to mind. The onion soup mix is very versatile.

Yes it is, and for that reason, we always have some in the house to use. Maybe one day I should actually try to incorporate it into a soup just to say I did. Maybe I can even invent a recipe for something unique and share it here. lol

Nope the thought never crossed my mind to use them for soup. I always have them handy and use them for the same things you do. Does make for a good meatloaf

It's funny how that is. I don't think I know of a single person who DOES make it into a soup, and even here so far I don't think anyone has commented they do.
