Lunch is almost ready and I am still shocked with some news.

My day has been a mixture of cleaning up for tomorrow (my daughters are coming for dinner), cooking for tomorrow and eating part of it today, mylotting and reading news. I was shoched that a teenager that had started to abuse sexually of his brothers ( 4 and 7 when he began) and continued doing so for 10 years until he was caught was convicted for 7 years in prison. And I can bet that he will be out before for "good behaviour". Sex related crimes, at least in my country don´t have a big punishment. In fact many people who should have life imprisonment are let out for good behaviour after a couple of years and they do it again. Two years ago, a beast that had killed and dismembered a young woman was let out and then he went to live with a woman with a young daughter. The man did it again, but this time the woman helped him. Now it seems that they are in for life but I don´t trust that that will happen. There is an amount of violence in the world now that I could not have imagined a few decades ago. People are not safe on the streets nor in their schools. I´m sure that there are reasons. Why can´t governments take care of that instead of having politics fight against each other? Friends, this is a rant

Now with internet and news channels we have access to more news. Earlier things were kept secret within the family. Now the world knows everything.

@marguicha Yes 7 years is just too little. It should be life imprisonment coz they are a threat to others when they come out of prison.

Still, 7 years is too little if it is known.

The truth, unfortunately, is that these things were happening decades ago but they were kept quiet so it didn't embarrass a family or a city.... Now, with almost instant news around the world and people talking about things in social media, we learn about anything and everything that goes on... There is nothing new under the sun. Everything begins in the past and is echoed in our time and in the future.

Probably. What should we do now that it is not hidden is to be harsher with the perpetrators.

@marguicha True... but most of them get off with a lighter sentence, if anything at all happens.

That kid not only needs to be locked up for a much longer time but also requires intensive therapy.

I don´t think that those people change with therapy. They should be kjept where thay don´t harm anyone.

Possibly DE is right when he says it's been going on all the time but we now hear about it more. You can't keep much under wraps these days.

I think more and more people are under pressure and dealing with mental challenges...and are being ignored. We need to have a more proactive view when it comes to these people. What you have stated is tragic and should not be happening in our world.

@LindaOHio In my country, prisons have nothing to do with the prisons we see on movies.
