Book Banning

Books about Rosa Parks are not allowed in Florida schools nor ones about Martin Luther King Jr. This new book ban by DeSantis is so outlandish. Barring colleges from certain subjects in their classes. How bizarre. There are actual 'ban lists' going around the country and schools are being scrutinized. There is an actual fine of $5,000 and five years in prison for going against this new law. I was just listening to a story on the news on this subject. I had been hearing this in the news lately and thought it reminded me of one of my favorite books, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. How scary to think of this actually going on in our country. The book is about a futuristic world where books are outlawed and burned. Secret camps where people are walking around reciting and memorizing books. This book always bothered me because of my love for books. Is equality for all people becoming a thing of the past? Are they actually making guns easier to come by than a real education? I think someone needs to take DeSantis out of office. How can civilized people let this go on? What are your thoughts on this subject?

You should be allowed to teach any subject or any book in college. In high school if it is not aginst one race.

Looks like there are those who don't agree with that. I can't see how we can counteract this either.

Some people say I'm exaggerating when I say DeSantis is following in Hitler's footsteps, but if you examine his actions and compare them to the Nazi party in the late 1920s and early 1930s there are many disturbing parallels. Book banning is just one of them.

Absolutely true! He is as dangerous to democracy as Trump, maybe even worse and he wants to be President.

Hmmm, I'd have to know more about those books, could it be the books aren't telling the truth? Personally, I find that our lack of education about what happened to Native Americans in the late 1800s through the 1920s to be really outrageous, our government during Andrew Jacksons time, found it acceptable to commit genocide yet no one I know knew about it until they were adults, it's not taught in our schools.

Yes, the Native Americans never did get any respectful treatment. I think a lot of the truth of times like these could traumatize kids. It sure would be me in that situation.

I saw it on the news, read about it this morning, and discussed it with lots of friends all day. He’s another political idiot from Florida. Just a lunatic like Trump. I certainly didn’t vote for him in any election.

There has never been enough truth taught in our schools, now they want to ban certain subjects and books that depict the US as the way it was and is. DeSantis is a huge danger to our Constitution.

I think books should be available for the future generations to see them too
