To Love is To Destroy (Thoughts on this Shadowhunter Quote)

If you know Will Herondale and Jace Lightwood, you'd know about this quote. I love these wounded boys so much but I can't say that I agree. I can't also say that I understand why they think of love this way, though I have my guesses. For Jace, he was raised by Valentine and you know the extremity of the latter's brainwashing capabilities. Will was tricked by this annoying demon who thinks it's oh-so-important-and-powerful to be able to curse my William (Yes, I would choose Will over Jace, any time, simply because he's Welsh). They'd been forced to think that they don't deserve love and to be loved because of these reasons. The problem is, they're lovable, and every teenager, no matter how vain, is not spared from falling in love as well. And there goes the countless torture that they have subjected themselves into to not hurt the ones they love (the lucky Clary and Tessa). Anyway, back to the part where I don't agree with this Herondale motto. It's because as much as they were hesitant to admit it through their respective life stories, love has been the only thing that kept them from killing themselves and the people around them. Imagine having a Jace or Will in your life minus the looks, which we have to admit is the only thing that makes them tolerable, and you pretty much get what I mean. The  stubbornness, meanness,  insensitivity, sarcasm, and most importantly, the amount of vanity in one Herondale alone is like an atomic bomb wrapped in a melting hot package (exaggerating, by the way). God forbid what will happen to the entire Shadowhunter world if Cassandra Clare put Jace Lightwood in a time machine and have him spend time with his ancestor William Herondale. Again, let's get back on track. Love, as I was saying, was that one thing which basically kept them from exploding. I noticed it in Jace every time he's alone with Clary and the same with Will. The facade goes down and they're somehow able to let go of all the bullshit that they wear on their faces whenever they are around other people. They see everything more clearly when they are with their loved ones and are even at loss for words around them, something that you would notice immediately because duh, they talk too much in normal circumstances. They glow and are every the angel that they claim not to be because of love. So call me the defender of love  or whatever, but I think that love needs a break from all the rantings that it gets from us (yes, including me, sometimes). It's just doing it's job, which is to confuse and seemingly destroy us so that we can fully appreciate it. Love is not going for only sweet, sweet is boring, it's going for bittersweet.
