Hi folks, some of you may have wondered if I gave up on my painting of Taz, since I broke my series to post on something else last time. I realized that I should really be posting on other things in case people aren't interested in ONLY reading about the painting. But for those of you who are interested in it, here is an update!
I have started the final phase of the painting, beginning to cover the neutral-colored underpainting with true color to match Taz's brown tabby coat. The underpainting has given me a good framework to build on as I start to work around the figure, developing the different areas and light and dark tones.
This is just at the laying-in stage, where I establish the most accurate colors in broad areas to establish the shapes and values on the portrait. In later stages, I will work on the various surface textures and details. I still need to build up some layers in order to cover the canvas completely - there are some areas that still show raw canvas, like Taz's tongue. It's a long journey, but I hope you are enjoying seeing the progress!

@AliCanary It takes a lot of time to perfect a drawing.

You are very methodical in this painting and it is paying off.
I love it and cannot wait to see the finish Ali.

Thank you! It's kind of a long process - I don't think a lot of people realize what all has to go into constructing a painting. I hope the peek inside the process is fun!

@RebeccasFarm I hope you get back into it again. When there's no pressure to produce, it's quite enjoyable.

@AliCanary Exactly. I'm sure most of us have no idea about how artists go about creating such a work.

I think more artists should share their process instead of just the finished product. It's very interesting, but also it would probably give people a better understanding of the amount of work going into it.

It is so exciting to see a work in progress; and it's good to see you here. Have a good week.
