I use ChatGPT to learn

I used to see a lot of news headlines about how ChatGPT is going to destroy learning and other fearmongering stuff. I don't think it's fair to take it out because people can use it to cheat. And I mean, Google and Wikipedia made it easier to look things up at a glance without having to bury yourself in books. I also used these to learn more about the world on a surface level before focusing on an specific topic that I want to learn. For ChatGPT, I use it to learn programming. I learned how to write better code by asking it things in a few minutes instead of having to look things up on StackOverflow for a couple of hours. Also, I like to think that if something can save time, that time saved can be well-spent learning more things which makes learning more efficient. What do you think?

Our Admin has clearly stated that he will close the account of those who use ChatGPT and I cannot agree more. Where is the "original content" if it's written by a robot?

@Tierkreisze When people use ChatGPT they should give credit, but a few users thought it was an easier way to post here.

Yeah, I only looked it up just now when @evilamericans told me about the guy that got banned. Also, using the tech that way is also against ChatGPT's terms of service. They specifically said people should give due authorship to ChatGPT if the AI wrote it for them. Not that I'm hoping for bad things to befall the guy, but getting banned here and getting banned on OpenAI is a double whammy.

I read a few responses here and I am in tune with @evilamericans and @LadyDuck . As far as I heard and understand from my own perspective, it's more or less like this ChatGPT can turn many people, especially students to admit plagiarism. For me, I believe in 'no pain no gain'. I rather learn through books that has official reference, citations and publishing dates, go through the adventure of learning pain, make mistakes and learn from mistakes and asks the real brain (real brain I mean human) for confirmation and such. That explicit and tacit knowledge process; I'm sure can't be obtained through ChatGPT usage. I agree much with @LadyDuck , be original, be yourself. That way, we can be more humane. Sorry, I just express my perspective. If you really like ChatGPT, maybe you can use that somewhere else since I read that the admin will remove the account for those who use ChatGPT here. For me, I don't think I will surf that ChatGPT ever; enough to just hear about it.

ChatGPT is allowing people to cheat and to be plagiarists, things that have always been forbidden. I have seen online sites that can search the content and "guess" if a text is created by ChatGPT, I hope that all novels and book written with this app will be banned soon.

@LadyDuck Oh wow, so there are people who want to publish books using ChatGPT? Wow, keyboard warriors context just got broader with ChatGPT The more apps like this built, the more people won't be bothered to use their brain to write

@Adie04 Amazon is now flooded with books written using ChatGPT, this is the end of humans intelligence. I am disgusted, Robots will dominate the world soon. Have you watched the movie "I Robot"?

I am not familiar with it. If it is useful for programming, then it should be allowed

@Tierkreisze it's kinda hard to understand

@hotsummer Ah well, it'll take a while, I guess? And I mean, some folks have it easier than others when it comes to different things.

I like your outlook on it and that is mine too. I have not used it yet, but it can be useful I am sure.

@RebeccasFarm Googling ChatGPT should pull it up as the first link. It's on the OpenAI site, and you'll need to create an account there to use it.

@RebeccasFarm Yep. You'll have to go to their site first and make a new account though. Not sure if we're allowed to send links here btw, so I'll just tell you that it's made by a company named OpenAI.

I'd definitely suggest you try it. Personally, I'm more inclined to study by myself and practice, than listen to lectures so it really worked for me. Pretty sure this could help a lot more people to learn, too!

ChatGPT can help write better code, but if you still don't understand it, no use of it .

You're right with that. Lots of times, I asked ChatGPT to make me code that does something or have it fix my own code for me. 9 times out of 10 I ended up having to debug them myself! Though then again, fixing broken code looks like good practice to me. ^_^ It does seem useful when you ask it to write how a certain command or built-in function works, though. Discovered a few other things that made coding easier by asking it right.

@mrki444 That's intriguing. What language do you use?

As an artificial intelligence system, ChatGPT does have quite an impressive ability to produce quite natural language. However, it should be noted that ChatGPT still has limitations in understanding context and solving complex problems. Claims that artificial intelligence is close to or even equal to human intelligence really depends on the definition of intelligence and how we measure that intelligence. Although AI technology has advanced rapidly, we are still far from achieving the general artificial intelligence we hoped for. It is true that some AI experts predict that general artificial intelligence will be achieved within the next 10 years, but this is still a prediction and there could be delays or faster technological advances than expected.

Indeed. So far, ChatGPT still makes factual mistakes. And it's got a cut off date for the stuff it knows. Still though, this field's really exciting. Can't wait to dip my toes into more advanced AI stuff!

It's good, I guess if used wisely. anything invented by humans should first be experimented on intensively and extensively before totally embracing it.

That's true. Guess this reminds me of the time when people used to put arsenic on everything, including makeup!

Yes it could be a good thing, but people will always use good things to cheat.

The sad reality of any helpful tech. This is why we can't have nice things
