Many, many years ago, I watched a part of a movie. I enjoyed the movie because the very novel plot of it. Let me explain the plot and see if any of you have heard of this movie. There is a married couple, (I know, good start there Elic...) The wife tells the doctor that her husband doesn't want children, that she desperately wants one. (Remember, I came in not too near the beginning of this movie. Maybe this is set in the early days of the Pill.) The wife tells her husband that the doctor says she can't have children even though she wants to have one by him. There was some other stuff she tells other people, but I can't remember exactly what - but it becomes clear that this woman has more than a little problem with the truth. At the end of the movie the husband is going to the same doctor for something. The doctor tells him (the husband) that he should change his mind about children since his wife wants one so badly. Needless to say, this shocks the husband and he goes home and confronts the woman and tells her he's filing for divorce. The wife tries to go after him, and the movie fades to black with her weeping on the stairs. Now, I seem to remember this being in black and white, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure it is set either contemporary of the film being made, or nearly so, late 1940s or early 1950s. But I've never known the name of the movie and I'd like to see it again. Does anybody know its name?

Unfortunately, the movie description is not informative enough to accurately determine its title. You can try using an online movie database to find it based on the plot description and release date.

I have tried that - the database - but as you say, not enough information.

@ElicBxn It's a shame that you couldn't remember the name, maybe with time you'll recall it

@porwest I hope so. I am nearly 70 and I can name quite a few folk from before my time even.

@ElicBxn lol. I understand. But heck, I can name certain actors from even 70 years ago. Way before my time. Bette Davis, Clark Gable, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Jerry Lewis, Fred Astaire, Albert Costello, just to name a few. I am sure someone's memory will be jogged.

I wish I could, but I saw this in the mid/late 1980s and I didn't really recognize anyone that I can remember.

@BarBaraPrz I wish... I keep wanting to put Leo G. Carroll's face on him, but I really don't think it was. In fact, after checking him out, I know he wasn't the doctor.

No, I looked at the Wiki article and it isn't even close to the story I saw. Sorry, sounds like an interesting movie, however.

@ElicBxn IK still think its a letter to three wives, it is an anthology and its one of the stories.

@CaptAlbertWhisker this was a story about a wife who told the doctor her husband didn't want children, she told her husband the doctor said she couldn't have children and I really don't remember what she told her friends. This doesn't sound like a woman worried about losing her husband to another woman.

If at least you could remember the actors it would be possible to find the title.

Sorry, no. I came into the movie in the middle, I didn't recognize the actors and it was in black and white. It looked to be contemporary to the time it was made, so I'd guess anytime between the early 1930s to the early 1950s. I don't think it was during the war so I'd guess it wasn't between 1941 and 1945. Not a lot of help.

@ElicBxn so that means it has been way back before if its black and white, it will be harder to identify that movie

Yeah, that's just it, the movie was well enough acted and who would've thought I'd still be thinking about it almost 40 years later.
