The red lanterns in San Francisco’s Chinatown have been an iconic photo op for ten years,. But this year’s storms have damaged them. Some lanterns have been destroyed; some are in tatters. Fundraising has started to buy new ones. They are on Grant Street.

Storms are causing a lot of damage. Repairs costs alot of money. Perhaps insurance can pay them

I don’t know if that is something that they can get insurance for. These are outdoor paper lanterns. Doesn’t sound like a very outdoorsy material but I guess it’s the cultural norm.

This is a shame, I hope they will collect enough money to replace them.

10 years is a very long time. I think it is alright to renew the red lanterns now

I don’t know the normal lifespan for items like this.

Oh my, that's sad. You're right about it being an iconic photo op. I have a friend who got her pic taken with those red lanterns

Storms are one of the natural disasters causing destruction but I hope everyone is okay after that storm

Yes, the deterioration of the lanterns resulted from a series of weather events.

Can we say that nature is angry with us and now it is punishing us?
