Day 274 (Proverbs 10:7) The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked rots. Who do you remember? When someone passes from this life, you either have fond memories of them, or you have feelings of relief. Memories of people who caused you grief are best forgotten. You don’t even like to remember their name. However, those who inspired you, encouraged you, and treated you with dignity are long remembered for their role in your life. Solomon said the memory of the righteous, those who put their trust in God, would be remembered for what they did in life long after they were gone from the earth. Those who denied God and were disobedient would be as rotten fruit. Their name would perish with them. When Christians pass from this life into eternity, people remember what they did, and how they treated people. They will go into long dissertations of their achievements, not so much their physical achievements but their love and service to God. Many times, their physical achievements are wrapped up in their service to God. When you think about men such as Billy Graham, you think about the many crusades he had throughout the world from the moment he accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. His whole concern was the salvation of men’s souls. You remember Mother Teresa for her compassion to the lepers in India. You know people who served God with joy and humbleness of heart. They never said ‘no’ to anything that would bring salvation to the hearts and souls of the people. How will people remember you? Are you concerned with the things of God? Or you cannot be bothered with spending time in God’s service because it means giving up something you want to do with your life. Jesus said you cannot serve both God and mammon. You have a choice in how you live your life. Paul said everything you do should be done for the glory of God. (Colossians 3:17) And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (NKJV) Peter also had the same thought when he said: (1 Peter 4:11) If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (NKJV) Don’t let your name be rotten to the soul when you pass. Instead, let your memory bring joy to all those who know you. Let’s pray: Father, let my life be in service to You so that when I pass, those who knew me, will know how much I loved You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
