Bad Egg

Bad egg

Yesterday, I bought 20 pieces of eggs. I bought them in the nearest public market. I saw there many egg sellers so I was encouraged to buy them that day. I do not have any idea if the eggs are fresh or not. I just saw them very white. Then in the evening, I boiled one for dinner. I supposed to eat only one boiled egg and one sliced bread, but to my dismay when I shelled off the egg yolk was colored black. . I did not eat it afraid it might be toxic. Then I uploaded the image to my Facebook friends to aware them that it is so necessary to ask the egg seller if the eggs are fresh and then after some hours it garnered 340 plus viewers but no comments were sent. I guess the sellers would not tell the truth whether the eggs they sell are fresh or not. Do you have any idea how to detect the eggs as fresh or not? Thank you for reading-sharing is caring. The image shown here is the egg.

You put the egg in a bowl of water, if it sinks to the bottom and stays there it is okay. If it rises to the top - not good.

@Kandae11, thank you for this, I will try the remaining eggs. I still have 19 pieces of eggs. No one likes to cook afraid if the egg is not fresh.

@cacay1 I do the same thing @kandae11 does. But from what I see, that does not mean that the egg is spoiled.

@marguicha , I will try the advice here from @Kandae11 and @pitstop. Then if it is not spiled, why is the color os like that? I threw the egg.

Perhaps lately it is quite hot in your side and therefore the eggs go bad sooner. Usually I will store the eggs into the fridge and it can maintain for a long time. Long time ago when we bought the eggs, we would pick up an egg to see it through the light to judge whether it is fresh or not. But we haven't done that for a long time already as today I buy the eggs from the supermarkets rather than a market.

@youless, I bought the eggs yesterday. And they're refrigerated. We're not used to buy eggs because we're supplied by our Vet Med cousin owner of 10 hectares poultry farming. But no more eggs so I bought 20 pieces of eggs.

I am not sure how to detect a bad egg too. Did it smell off? Some people say you can put it in water and see if it sinks or floats.

@pitstop, really? I will try to place them in water in a big basin to know which one is fresh and not. Thanks for sharing. I still have here 19 pieces of eggs.

What @Kandae11 suggests is the easiest method to check if an egg is fresh. If the egg floats, throw it.

I guess most salesmen would stay quiet about it to sell off has many as they can , or they just might not know it themselves either .

We only buy eggs with a expiry stamps but still have to check it through letting it float on a glass of water. If it floats then it is not good anymore

You need a lamp, shine a light beam on all sides of the egg and examine the shell. If the light from the lamp penetrates the egg shell and shines brightly from the inside of the egg, it means the egg is fresh and in good condition for consumption.
