Too good to sit on

The collage shows just a few of the sumptuous items of furniture which we saw on a visit to Dublin Castle in Ireland. The upholstery is a beautiful brocade and matches the colour of the walls. Upper left shows a couch with end seats. The piece in the upper right photo intrigued me. It consists of four connected chairs but they are all back to back. I guess there would be other guests to talk to as it would be pretty hard conversing with those beside or behind you. Lower right is a very ornate hall table. There were several of these, all matching. I guess the vases displayed would cost a pretty penny too. What would you call the colour of the upholstery? Crimson?Burgundy?

I would call it red and beautiful. The room looks really nice.

There was a lot of red and gold - very ornate.

I’m not sure what color I’d call it, but I love it. You don’t see it used anymore.

It looks more pink in the photos. It was darker in real life. And you're right - you don't see it very often now.

Cerise, maybe? The piece in the upper right photo could be a chaperone chair, but they usually only seat three people.

Thanks for the photo. It seems a very odd piece of furniture. So difficult to talk to the others.

It looks red to me - not the colour I would want for my furniture.

It seems this colour was popular in those times. It's often seen in castles and stately homes.

@allknowing I'm sure it qualifies as a stately home.

In the top photos, I'd call that color "extremely ugly pink", since you asked. In the lower left photo, I'd call that "fire engine red".

@JudyEv I wouldn't choose either color for my home but women have "different" tastes... My first wife insisted we buy the ugliest pink couch and chair with blue pinstripes for our first house together. I told her I got to pick out the colors for the bedroom if we HAD to have that ugly couch and chair. I chose a medium blue for the bedroom. Blues and greens are soothing colors. Why would anyone choose a color that isn't soothing to live with for years? It makes no sense to me.

@DaddyEvil I'm with you. I'm finding it hard to imagine pink with blue pinstripes.

ON the day, they were more red than pink but the colour hasn't transferred well.

It looks like something you would find at Versailles. The upholstery almost looks pink-ish in some of the pix. I would not be comfortable in a room like that. I need my recliner!

I see Hot Hot pink but that could simply be how my monitor picked up the color rather than it actually being hot pink.

That makes sense, it's very hard for cameras to get accurate colors when indoors where a flash is needed. Is it more of a crimson color?

I can see why most think it's pink but the colour hasn't reproduced well.

This colour reminds me the gowns of the Cardinals, I would say it's cardinal red.

I would call the color "majestic." Although that is not a color. But it definitely has the look of something special.

To me, it’s some shade of pink. I agree with you, it’s so gorgeous! And to think that, back in “those old days,” that was just “everyday furniture.”

I would call it pink. I agree, the seating is too beautiful to sit on, and the tables too polished to be touched.

There was a card game laid out on one of the tables as if the people had all got up and left the game for some reason.
