What do you think of a parent kissing her/his child on the lips?

I'm curious. I saw last week a mother kissing her 12-year-old boy on the lips. I'm not so much on the act because I did smack my child on the lips when he was still a baby. But I am wondering if it is proper to do so in public at that age. I mean, there was no malice but at his age, is it proper? And it was not a peck or a smack, it was a full-lips kiss. It was just a few seconds, but I saw the boy's face turned red. What are your thoughts on this?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question it comes down to the fundamental of how you were raised. I choose to always kiss my kids on their heads, or cheeks. I tell them that kissing on the lips is for when you're dating or married not that it's wrong to kiss someone there, but their mommy doesn't want kisses on the lips from them.

That's a great way to teach your kids. I'm not so much also in kissing on the lips for kids because I might be transferring germs to them at that young age. But I fully understand what you did I would prefer to do this too with my kids and my grandkids.

Me, neither. At his age, he would be self-conscious.

I kissed all my babies on the lips when they were small and still so with my baby who is 2. I’m not sure at what age we stopped but I definitely do not do it to my oldest who are not 19 & 15.

I see. We all have different views about this incident. I wonder why you find no issue with it? Just curious.

I imagine this was embarrassing for him as I don’t know many 12 year olds, especially boys, who would be okay with that. And while it isn’t my cup of tea, I would try not to judge them for it because I’m not familiar with how they grew up, or their traditions. However, if I were a mother, and I am not, I personally wouldn’t be kissing my children on the lips probably once they started school. But that’s just me.

Yes, You're right.I don't think it's proper. I think many mothers think as you do. There's a certain age that it should be stopped.

I don't like anyone to kiss me on the lips unless they're my girlfriend/wife... I would think the parent should go by the child's feelings in the matter. If it embarrassed the boy, then it should stop.

A public kiss like that in public would make me cringe and seems a bit inappropriate to me unless she did it for attention.

I think 12 is too old to kiss a child on the lips.

Geographical or depends on how people are being raised? I am not pretty sure but here in our country, I haven't seen any parent doing that. I guess, we are still conservative (in some aspects) in this modern world.
