And now it isn't even safe to attend a graduation??

We live in a sad and sorry world. I know, violence is everywhere, I get that. We can all only try to be safe and keep our loved ones safe. Seven people shot at a high school graduation today in Virginia. Not a lot of info out there about it yet, if there are deceased, etc. Another scheduled graduation for the same place is now cancelled. Imagine, going to your child's high school graduation and watching people get shot. I just can't... Unfortunately, it will happen again. And again. And again. We will lose more loved ones and friends. I advocate for gun control--if you want a gun, you need a permit, you need to be at least 21 (I wish!) and you need to go through a screening process which would hopefully separate the sheep from the goats, so to speak.

Now how sad is that. Something you wait for after 12 formal years of school and than the day is ruined be shooting.

Just heartbreaking. What should be a special time to remember will forever be a horrible memory instead.

Shootings are everywhere. Every time you walk out the door, that's a risk you take.

True, for sure. And how sad is that, we have reached the acceptance stage of this.

You know, I made a comment to NJ Chic this morning, since she did remote/online/virtual teaching today because her school system’s schools were used for voting places. I said that it’d be cheaper to have nothing but online/virtual learning…and followed it up with a comment that it’d severely curtail school shootings. I’d hate to think it might take that in order to save kids’ lives, but you know something…I don’t think politicians are going to allow us to do “rational” things to save kids’ lives.

I can see why parents use online/virtual learning. And it would be cheaper for the schools not to have to have support staff, heat and cool buildings, and so on and so forth. We know kids need to be social and have friends. I don't know how I would feel as a parent right now if I had young children in schools. Very hard decisions to make.

Updated to say, 2 killed, 5 injured. A 19 year old suspect is in custody. One of the people killed was graduating today.

@wolfgirl569 My question is always, WHY??? What did the shooter hope to accomplish by this?

Sometimes, it is. And sometimes, it's just a lone ranger with an agenda.

It's horrible. In the future, schools may decide on some type of closed locked inside graduation with minimal family to attend. I see metal detectors being put up in the future. We are in a horrible time.

Every single school should have installed detectors long, long ago. They are not that expensive. It would help.

Every time I open a news feed it is another act of violence. It is a wonder they do not make everything remote.

Parents want their children to be with their friends. But obviously that isn't working out so well in many instances. I think you are right--remote every student in the US until the government wakes up and goes rogue and gets something done about this mess!!

Yes, it is. And so many little kids are so scared. The fact that schools now have ''active shooter drills'' is terrifying in itself.

Any big group of people I am in, I do think it would be a place for a massacre. Isn't that sad that I think that.

I know many, many people who think the same you do. We all do. I stay away from big crowds. It's just not smart right now.

Its vomit worthy. We home schooled our daughter for a good deal of her schooling and I think she is better for it.

I don't understand why there are always school shootings in the US. This is so devastating. The future of those kids who were killed where crushed into ashes. How I wish the Government must do and take actions on this matter.
