Leadership is a social influence method that maximizes others' efforts to accomplish a task. Leadership is not defined by position or status, a good top manager may or may not be good leader but good leader is certainly a good in managing people 1-Social influence, not authority or power, is the source of leadership. 2-Others are necessary for effective leadership, thus they don't necessarily have to be "direct reports." 3-No mention of a title, attribute, or even a personality trait; there are numerous leadership philosophies and techniques. 4-Involves a purpose rather than impressing with a desired outcome.
