I think that's a very common prejudice. The french are said to be snobs to basically everyone. However, I don't really think that's true. I guess that they only appear to be snobby, because they insist in speaking french and everyone who doesn't speak french fluently and/or makes mistakes while trying to speak french is many times rewarded with a very cross look... ;) They're just proud of their language and they're quite strange in my opinion when it comes to keeping the french language as it is... ;)

I'm not sure why the french are snobby towards americans, I didn't know they were till you mentioned it. As for speaking french, I could back in highschool because I was taking a french class but I've forgotten it all.

I learned it in High School and remember a little. When I went to Paris, I didn't need to use it as I was on a tour. It would have been nice to know it then. Now they are teaching it in elementary school which is good. When I was in school.. I didn't take it till high school.

I speak french, but not fluently. I have studied this language at the high school and at university, but always at a low level. I don't know if french are snobs to americans, I haven't ever heard it before.
