Christmas Traditions...

Does anyone have any Christmas traditions that they do every year? We started a new tradition last year and hope to continue it. We made a gingerbread house and took it to our annual church jubilee for the children to enjoy. They just loved it. It was fun to do - a fun activity that the entire family worked on.

We always do Christmas Eve here where we live with my husbands family. We open presents and eat an awesome dinner. We then get up in the morning and do Christmas with my husband and my daughters. We get ready and go to my parents house in Columbus and open presents there and eat an early dinner there as well. We then go to my aunts house for dessert and to mingle with the rest of the family. It seems to work out well so far. This year, my husband wants to switch it up and go to my parents house in the morning and do our little family Christmas at night.

That makes for a busy two days, doesn't it? You get to be with family though, and that's what matters.

On Christmas Eve the Entire family gets together, my Father in law comes in dressed as Santa and visits with all of the kids. We have a really good time and it has been a tradition in my hubby's family for 30+ years.

Awww! That's sweet! I'll bet the kids just love getting to see Santa, don't they? My little girl was always afraid of him and wouldn't ever sit on his lap, but my son loved to get up on his knee and give his Christmas list. That's a nice tradition that your family observes.

All we do is get together and have eggnog and some cookies. The kids love that when the family is altogether

That reminds me! I haven't had any eggnog in a long time. I'll have to fix us some this year. Thanks for responding!

Our family traditions are very simple...on Christmas Eve, my son and his family come over to eat and open presents. we have just a simple meal and enjoy being together. Then on Christmas Day, we all gather at my sisters house and eat and open presents, watch tv, play football, and just chat and enjoy the company of about 25 family members. That's all I need. I think the idea of the gingerbread house is great! If I can find the time between work and getting all the gifts made for everyone, I'd like to get my granchildren over and make one with them...good idea...hope I can work that in.May you have the best of holidays!

My Grandmother started the tradition of our family get together about 60 years ago and as the family grew it got better each year. As the family moved to different parts of the country to work it became a more focused gathering as we saw less of each other and now its just my mother, my wife and me and my brother and his wife that get together, some of the kids try to get there too but they have 'better' things to do nowadays.

We love to go out driving and look at all of the lights, too. It seems like some of the area neighborhoods get into a little friendly competition with their decorations. It's fun!

Happy Holidays! - happy holidays
We have a tradition that started kind of by mistake, but is still fun. When my little boy was 6 months old and we were celebrating his first Christmas, I kept wanting to take him to the mall to get his picture taken with Santa, but I was recently back from maternity leave and covering the maternity leave of a co-worker who had delivered a few months after me. So I never made it to the mall until Christmas Eve and I took him that day for the picture. I had previously steered way clear of the mall that close to Christmas, but I found that it really wasn't that bad, and it started a tradition of hanging out in the mall a little while on the afternoon of Christmas eve and getting the Santa picture taken. It's a little weird but a lot of fun.

We have a some traditions. The first one is Thanksgiving night; we put up the Christmas tree and then drive around and look at all the Christmas decorations and displays that the people in our town have up. The second one is Christmas Eve and everyone gets to open one Christmas present. Then right before bed we leave cookies and milk for Santa in front of the fireplace. These tradiotions have been done since I was a kid and my mom did them with us.
