Alan Jambart had an obsession to play poker. He was not good at it, and he lost most of the times, that he played. Then one day, he was playing against a man, and he was again losing. After the game, the man took Alan aside, and said to him, "Why waste your time, and money, playing a game of which you have no talents for?" Alan squirmed, as he knew that this was true of himself, and yet his reply was like this: "I just enjoy playing, and losing is not as important to me as the playing is." The man said: "Well, a fool enjoys playing, but a wise man plays not to waste his own time, but to better himself in his playing." Alan winced again, and he left the table, went outside, and took a seat, next to the passing river, that run close by to this casino, and stared off into the distance. Alan sat there for a long time, and then he made the decision, not to ever play poker again, as for him it was indeed a fool's game, him being the fool. Alan instead got a job at the casino, as a dealer, and so he earnt money by his doing this, rather than losing it. He was enjoying this new job too, until a redneck Pastor, walking past him dealing out the cards, in a game of blackjack, one day, and said to him. "You are indeed a Devil worker, my son. Stop doing this, and work for God, not against him." Alan took this on board too, and he took up religious studies, becoming a minister of religion then himself too. Alan had been pushed along, by these passing camels, but both of the pushes helped him in his life, and so he lived out his life, in preaching the good word of God. He would tell his parishioners: "God is love, it is often said of him, and this would also mean that God only loves. God does not hate, or act in ill will against anyone. God is at all times loving us." "We should love others, God, and ourselves, in such a way that life does not kick us around, by our becoming enamoured, and possessed of an obsession, like gambling can be. We should live our life for greater things than this." We are often helped by others to steer us to our right path in life, and we can either allow the steering to direct us, or we can buck up against it. A wise man takes advice when it is offered, and as he sees that this approach is best for him in his life. We tend to be in a state of denial till overcome and defeated by our ignorance. Alan was open-minded to listen to advice that was well meant We should have a long-term goal than getting rattled by temporary setbacks that gambling brings upon us. Change is the only constant and we should stay nimble to accept and go with the flow. However, we need to have the ability to discern what is good and beneficial for us.

Yes, we need to be ready to embrace change, and not turn our back on such opportunities coming to us, from life, for us to turn our life around. We need to be flexibly ready, not stubbornly stuck, fixed, in our ways.

@Shiva49 Yes, except for perhaps God's love which is constantly perfect in its unconditionally, at all times.

@innertalks Yes, we need to swallow our pride when needed and embrace change. Nothing is constant in creation.
