Ant man flopped, The Flash Flopped, 65 Flopped, Indiana Jones V flopped, Lots of Disney remakes and Many more CGI filled movies flopped this year. Barbie didn't use CGI, they just use practical effects and props. They use paintings and props as backdrop. The movie spends their budget in marketing instead of CGI. Making the movie is not that high budget but marketing the movie made them spend 150 Million dollars. Little mermaid took 3 months to make 300 Million. Barbie made $472,630,780 in 5 days. A movie 98% no CGI. They use paintings, the same technology used for Wizard of OZ which is like almost a century ago. CGI also ages so bad, 1980s Star Wars didn't use CGI and it looks better and more realistic than Early 2000s Star Wars prequels. They aged badly.

That is absolutely true about the CGI from the original Star Wars to the prequels of the 2000s. It makes me think of how realistic the original Jaws looked, to now the sequel to The Meg shark movie with Jason Statham. It’s a good example when progress isn’t really progress.

Also CGI horror movies looks like a videogame. Modern GI looks bad 5 years later. This scene didn't use oceans, green screen and CGI. its good old paintings!

Not a movie that I am interested to watch, but I like a lot more the old painting technology than Computer Generated Imagery movies. A few of the past were good, not the modern ones.

I think the director of this movie wants the money to be spent in marketing instead of CGI and they approved her idea of using painting background. No CGI but somehow it doesn't look cheap. Even the people who hated this movie admires the visuals.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I remember the old Disney series Zorro, with the background painted, a lot better than the garbage movies they are making now.
