Family stories are always one of my favorite things to listen to my parents talk about. It just so happens a lot of my family history is filled with tragedy. My mom's grandpa from her dad was a widower and he remarried a woman who had a couple of dead husbands. It was said they believe she killed my grandpa's brother. My great-grandfather's new wife was quite a bit younger than my great-grandfather. My great-grandfather had money which is why everyone believes she married him. My great uncle was closer in age to the wife and the wife seemed to like him but he wanted nothing to do with her and even made his feelings on her being with his father quite clear. Shortly after this declaration of his hatred towards her he dropped dead out of nowhere. This woman's previous husbands suspiciously ended up dead too. Everyone thought my great-uncle's death was suspicious as he was so young and they wanted his body exhumed to be tested for poison but she threatened my great-grandfather if he were to do that she'd leave. That alone says a lot because if she knew she didn't do anything wrong you'd think she would want her name cleared. My mom said she was actually pretty nice to her and she liked her but didn't trust her when she was a kid. My mom said she and her cousin wouldn't eat any food until her biological granddaughter ate it first because they figured she wouldn't try and kill her. It amuses me to think about my mother and cousin sitting at the dinner suspiciously waiting to make sure the woman's biological children and grandchildren don't drop dead first. They believe that the step-grandma was only a threat if you were married to her and tried to leave or if she found you to be a threat. All of my aunts and uncles said they didn't personally have any issues with her but they were always suspicious of her. My great-grandfather's money didn't go to his children or grandchildren it went to his wife and her biological children and grandchildren. We all figure it was probably for the best that my grandpa didn't inherit anyway because it would have been wasted on booze and other women that weren't my grandma. I always heard my great-grandfather was kind of cold. My mom was burnt really bad as a kid and he would take her to her appointments which was nice of him but my mom says he barely talked to her. My aunt says he used to walk with her to get water and then would make her carry it back while walking behind her telling her to move faster. They all say the possible murderer wife of his was nicer than he was.

People are crazy! While it’s hilarious they made the woman’s biological relatives try the food first, it’s definitely understandable.

They are, and crazy seems to run in my family. At least that kind of crazy was married in. When my mom and aunt told me this story I thought it sounded like a plot from an old movie and was super amused. My family stories are always so entertaining because they are always so crazy and off the wall and sound like an old movie or soap opera.

@sissy15 You and this new user, Mary something have the most outrageous stories about your families. I wish I could tell you her name, because you both have doozies. @Marysplace I think it is. Seriously, find some of her first posts.

@AmbiePam lol I'll have to look into that eventually. My one friend always told me I need to write a book and I'm like I wouldn't know where to start. I actually have documentation of some of my stories. My mom's side of the family has the most outrageous stories.

Settle on the most interesting to you parts of your family history and write that down if you want a story.

I think the issue is HOW I'd do it. I'd have to organize it in a way to make it make sense. It's not even just that as much as it is my family being weird about it. Some would be fine with it but others would get offended.

@sallypup I think we are always bound to offend someone and I'm not so much worried about offending readers I'd be more worried about upsetting my family.

@sissy15 I've written fictional short stories and even though I put in at the very first that the piece was fictional, gotten an offended reader. Writing can be interesting.
