My grandma's parents

Another family story I have shared in the past is that of my mom's maternal grandparents. My mom's mom really lived a rough life and survived more than she should have ever had to and it started in her very early childhood. My grandma's mom died when she was maybe five from complications of an appendectomy. A year later more tragedy struck. My grandma's father was inside with the kids when there was a knock on their door. It was his best friend. The best friend told him to step outside. Apparently, the best friend accused him of sleeping with his wife (we still don't know if he ever did or not) and shot him right out front of his house in front of his children. My grandma's grandmother (her dad's mom) happened to be there too and I believe I read in the article that she took him inside and laid him on the kitchen table where he died. My grandma and her siblings ended up being raised by her dad's parents. We didn't know anything about her mom's parents until the past six or seven years. We still don't know a ton about them other than what is on paper. My grandma was messed up for years over seeing her father die the way he did. It kills me to think how much tragedy my grandma had to go through from the very beginning of her life until towards the end of it. She was never bitter. I feel like part of the reason she was so loving towards her children and grandchildren was because she wanted them to feel the things she never got to in her own childhood.

That was very traumatic. I could relate to how traumatic it must have been for your grandma.

My grandma's entire life was traumatic, unfortunately. This was just the beginning of it.
