Another family story/great aunt

I mentioned my grandma was raised by her father's parents. Her and her siblings weren't the only ones that ended up being raised by them. My grandma's grandparents had a lot of children and of them all of course there had to be one or two who were more colorful. One of those children was my great-aunt. She was to put it nicely a lady of the night. She ended up going crazy we believe from syphilis and being institutionalized. She had one child who actually did belong to one of her marriages (we didn't even know she was married to the guy until years later) and her child ended up being raised with my grandma and her siblings. My aunt gave me several pictures of men that she didn't know who they were that my grandma had taken from my great aunt after she died. We believe they were several of the men that my great aunt had been with but we don't know for sure. My great aunt's daughter ended up marrying a man who was a human cannon ball in the circus. He was shot from a cannon and had broken every or nearly every bone in his body at different points in his career (not all at the same time). My mom's side of the family is probably the most interesting to learn about because it's full of tragedy and scandal. I always feel like I'm reading a soap opera. Most of these stories have some factual evidence. I have the pictures that had my aunt's name on the back of them, I have record of her at the asylum. I have a bunch of other things too including newspaper clippings. I wouldn't believe some of these stories either without evidence and it being told to me the exact same way by family members that knew these people.

It is touching to hear that your grandmother and her siblings stepped in to raise their cousins after the great aunt struggles

Their grandma's grandma stepped in to raise both my grandma and her siblings and my aunt's daughter. I hear she wasn't the nicest person though, but I don't know. I think they felt obligated to do it because my grandma's grandpa was a minister.
