Thanks to the actions of an off duty National Park Service (NPS) employee who did not give out her name who was driving home on Thursday who was driving downhill on Highway CA-190 eastward from Towne Pass when a tractor-trailer that was in front of her when the tractor trailer brakes caught fire. The NPS employee used a park radio to report the incident. The rangers in Furnace Creek which is 35 miles away received the message to send help. The driver of tractor trailer pulled over on the shoulder of the highway and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. The gender of the tractor trailer was not mentioned did restart the tractor trailer to travel again with the NPS employee drover behind the tractor trailer when the brakes caught on fire once again. The tractor trailer then stopped at Emigrant Junction where the NPS firefighters came to put the brake fire once again before the tractor trailer suffered serious damage driving on 17 wheels since of the wheels was destroyed in the fire. This is the first time that I know of that a NPS employee did her part to watch a tractor trailer arrive safely to a safety area. Link is abc3340.com/news/offbeat/t...

Brakes catching fire twice in one evening. That must set a record. It’s expensive to replace the brakes and all those tires.

I am sure that the mechanical bills for the tractor trailer will be around four or five digits.

@RubyHawk You are right since just repairing a tire is around $30 dollars.

Oof that is so scary! there have been a lot more vehicle fires. we just had one a few miles away from me, and it was near an auto-parts recycling plant which had fuel left on the ground and that was just such a disaster. I don't know the amount of damage, but it sure is scary.
