Wondering about an ad

On another site I participate in they have video ads for points, sometimes. There is one ad that makes me wonder. It is about a high dollar brand of kitchen appliances that can all be connected via wifi. My question is, "What if the internet is out?" Does this mean nothing will work at all, or "gasp" you just have to do things the old fashioned way and turn on your own oven, and order your own groceries, etc. I want to know, but not badly enough to buy into the entire scheme.

A pot and fire is all you need to cook dinner... Why bring wifi into it?

I agree! The more simple, the better.

@LadyDuck I do not want my refrigerator ordering its own refills, either. I would bet it would not bargain shop.

Space age technology. I think we need to get down to earth.

Correct! This means that nothing will work. I know of people who could not open their front door because it was connected via WiFi. The punishment for those who want to be too technological.

This has been a concern of mine for a long time. If we get too connected we are open to all kinds of failures.

That seems overly complicated.

Yes, it does, and yet it takes so much control away from the humans.

I would assume they would have to work without wifi but o can see how being able to connect from away from home could be handy like an oven you want preheated or something.

I have had or been around ovens that you could preset and it would turn on and preheat. No wifi involved.

@GardenGerty oh that’s neat I never heard of that. Shows how out of date I am with technology

No they wouldn't work. Our phone is connected to the internet, and if the internet goes down we can't send or receive phone calls!

So, my refrigerator could not send in my grocery order, either.

@GardenGerty You send your grocery order via the refrigerator?

it won't work unless it works similarly to a wireless printer that doesn't need internet.

I love the internet and all it allows me to do but I'll be dammed if I'd want any appliance that is controlled with wifi.

What if someone hacked your router or some such? It could be a disaster.

Yeah, nothing will respond if there's no Wi-Fi and the fun part is that you may not be able to use the item by hand, either.

I wonder if people who can afford this just want the brand for show and do not really use their kitchen anyway.

To the best of my knowledge nothing will work if the WiFi is out. Have a great day.

It's possible. Our printer could work to print docu from cellphone through wifi connection.

@GardenGerty Nope. Wifi connection is just an added feature for our printer.
