Should Japan Open Up to Immigrants to Deal with Aging Population?

August 24, 2023 10:36am CST
The Japanese work force is aging and it is affecting the economy badly. The government is doing everything possible to get the young Japanese people to have more kids and also offer them great incentives to stay back in the country and work but these have not really achieved much. Should the Japanese government open up the economy to more immigrants?

Immigration is the best solution for Japan's population problem. Should Japan accepted 1 million immigrants a year, this could fully offset the natural decline of the population.

I agree with you completely, but they may be scared about immigrants from certain countries.

@ogbenishyna They must be careful from which countries they let people in. They also have to allow a small number at once, so that they can get integrated with the locals.

They have a large workforce they didn't give a opportunity to because they only hire people right out of college. During the recession, these workers didn't get hired and never really got a chance to work. They might have to open up to allow people to fill necessary jobs. In spite of them being so inflexible
