Day 50 Mark 11:1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it,’ and immediately he will send it here.” 4 So they went their way and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5 But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?” 6 They spoke to them as Jesus had commanded. So, they let them go. 7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. 8 Many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ 10 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 11 And Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So, when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve. Many things stir you to start shouting with great celebration, the birth of your child, marriage, graduation, and paying off the mortgage on your home. You have many reasons to celebrate. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. When He did the people became excited because only a king coming in peace rides into a city on a donkey. They were expecting their Messiah to come and free them from bondage to Rome, so they cut down palm branches and hailed Him as their King. They didn’t realize the significance of what they did. In shouting Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD, they declared for all who heard that Jesus was the Son of God. He was their Messiah. As Christians, you know the significance of what Jesus did. Yes, He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, declaring His Kingship over His people. He declared that He was their Messiah, but He did not come to overthrow Rome. He did not declare who He was in words but in action. In a matter of days, the people who blessed Him would shout for His blood. He did not come as they expected, to overthrow Rome. Yet He did come to set them free. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you accepted His Kingship over your life. He set you free and overthrew Satan’s hold on your life. He broke the chains of slavery to sin and gave you eternal life. Have you declared His Kingship over your life? Has Jesus become your Messiah? Do you sing praises and bless His name with celebration and rejoicing? It’s not too late to join the celebration and bless the name of Jesus, declaring Him to be your Savior and Lord. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be my Savior. Let me join in the celebration and bless His name because He is King over my life. Let me praise Him because I belong to Him. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 2 September 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.
