This Time of Year Stresses Me Out

United States

I have my annual mammogram tomorrow and after being diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2019, this time of year stresses me out. First I have to have the mammogram, then I have the waiting period between the mammogram and when it can be read by the radiologist. One year I had to wait 2 full weeks for the results. Ugh. So now I give it a few days and then harass the doctor's office until they tell me the results. I would like to encourage women reading this to get their annual mammogram. That's how they found my breast cancer. Do you get an annual mammogram? Or if you are a man, does your significant other get one?

I need to make an appointment. I had forgotten. I made one, got there and they said, "Oh your appointment is tomorrow. Can you come back then?" NOPE, already had plans. So I need to get that done. I wanted to wait until the weather cooled off a bit too, so we are almost there! Thanks for the reminder!! And you try not to worry! No use worrying until you have something to worry about. You have to stay positive!!

I agree. You have to stay positive and not worry until there's something to worry about. There's too many what ifs.

This is a good reminder for everyone. I had thyroid cancer. Luckily taking my thyroid resolved that. Every 6 mos I have to go to a Dr for that but it's been 8 years. Then in 2021 I had ovarian cancer. That was a painful "cyst" I go every 6 mos for that as well. This year the Dr lectured me about being over 40 and not having a mammogram. My results were instantaneous. I had two lumps. Thankfully, again no radiation. Oddly enough they now want to do genetic testing on me to see if I have a "cancer" gene. I don't know if that will make me worry more or less.

@Kouponkaren Thank you. I am fine. As my brother says, everyone has something. Lol I just want people to know there is genetic testing and you should be screened for cancers. If detected early you can get lucky enough not to have to undergo treatment.

I hope your mammogram will go well and your waiting time to have the result will be short. I understand very well why you are stressed.

@LadyDuck Thank you. I will try to keep busy and not think much about it this week... if that's possible.

@Kouponkaren The worst is to wait to know from the doctor the results.

@freelancemariagrace When do they start doing them in the Philippines? In the US it's at the age of 40.

@Kouponkaren Many reasons for the cancer I am sure we will never know about. Take care of yourself.

@jstory Thank you. Me too. Had it done today and it was a piece of cake, but now I play the waiting game. I am going to call my doctor on Friday to see if she got the results.

@wolfgirl569 Hm, I get them every year so I must have gotten one during Covid. That would have been my 1 year anniversary. I am sure everyone was wearing masks!

@Marilynda Thanks. I grab the tiger by the tail though and don't wait for them anymore. I will call the doctor later this week to get the results. I hope she has them.
