I can't believe Pepsi and Coca cola are not in some countries

September 20, 2023 5:10am CST
they say pepsi and coca cola are the most popular products in the world today and can be found in every corner of the world. I couldnt believe that these two soda drinks are not available in countries like Iran. Could it be for political reasons or are they against some religious beliefs.

Sometimes things get banned or boycotted for various reasons. Some corporations don't have a very good track record on either human rights or the environment - sometimes so bad that consumer boycotts happen (I haven't bought anything from Nestle since the late 80s). In some cases, although the product might be available, most citizens in a country simply can't afford a luxury like a canned soft drink on a regular basis. Branded soft drinks can be expensive and sometimes there are other alternatives - a local brand or an off-brand version which is a lot cheaper.

Is coca cola a luxury? Well I guess Iran doesnt want American products.

@ogbenishyna Not all that long ago it was the US issuing sanctions against Iran so whether or not they wanted American products was irrelevant. That probably led to them developing their own soft drinks as an alternative to the big brands. Irn Bru outsells coca-cola in Scotland, there's no boycott it's a national preference.

Iran is a country where a lot of things are not allowed. By why they shouldn't have Coca Cola or Pepsi is beyond me.
