Daylight 'tis shorter, cold fronts come'n ruin ones false hopes...the depths 'f winters fury'll be descendin' 'pon me shortly. 've got to see some firsts these past many months: Great-Horned Owl perched high'n the pine. A brief stay, but returned near a month later with a lady friend. 'd hopes they'd nest here. 'las, 'twas not to be. I still search the trees fer a sightin' 'f such majestic winged creatures. Oddity 'tis my normality. Schtuff that aint 'pposed to be here. A Peahen joined the pasture fer o'er a month. Makin' herself quite 't home with the horses, feral cats 'n yet 'nother mammal not 'xpected... A fox family! They'd took'p residence out'n the hubs shop 'fter diggin' a hole 'nder the the big barn wall. Most excitin' seein' the kits come out. Jest 3 spotted fer weeks. Then they moved residence... 'nder my house. Magically a family 'f 5 turned out to be one 'f 7! Yep, five healthy kits. Great fun watchin' the dad teach 'em to pounce, climb trees 'n forage fer food 'dults 'd buried. Great sadness when they moved'n. E'ery now'n then I'll spot one out'n the backyard. Wonder if'n they might come'n raise their own family come November. Time'll tell... The latest 'twas a strange bird least 'xpected. A juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. Nary a clue what brought such here. Outside 'f the pond (void 'f fish, definitely no crabs) 'n shelter I could find no reasonin'. Mr. Whiskey minded not 's such sat'n fence, jest a few feet from where he grazed. 'd any new visitors out'n yer neck 'f the woods? relishin' bundlin' jest to take a peek outdoors? i long fer summers heat 'lready!

I've never seen either of those birds in these parts although I do know some folks in the rural NM areas northwesterly of my position have those peacocks, I've seen em when I was on my way to Las Cruces on highway 28. Love that back road.
