What the Heck Do You Do With These?

The wife and I were at Walmart yesterday. While she was scanning the bread area trying to decide on either Brioche buns or ciabatta for our planned chicken patty sandwiches for dinner, I was over in the meat department as I had to get some pork steaks to replenish my stock. Luckily I found two packages on discount at $1.75 per pound rather than the usual $1.94 per pound. But I also saw packages of pork stomachs right above them. Have I seen these before? Maybe I have, maybe I haven't. I put a package in the baby seat of the cart and rolled over to the bread area and waited. BOOM! She saw the stomachs in the cart and was revolted. "What the hell?" We had a good laugh, and of course I put them back. But what the hell do you do with these?

We do have pork stomach dishes though I seldom have it. It can be boiled, fried or roasted.

@zhangxueying I have eaten plenty of Chinese. I don't even think it is served in any of the Chinese restaurants I have been to. But then, probably because few Americans would ever eat this.

I could definitely see it being a staple in certain ethnic cuisines. Just not here.

@porwest I have tried it a few times, but I don't love it, but it's also based on personal preferences, and some people may like to eat it. I have eaten beef tripe many times

It wouldn’t be my cup of tea, but I know people who eat them. When we lived in New Orleans they were popular.

Pork belly is NOT pork stomach. Two entirely different things. Pork belly is a fatty cut from the underside of the pig near the loin. Pork belly is delicious and edible. lol

@Aquitaine24 I have been known to order it a time or two at a restaurant. There was a place we went to once that had a candied pork belly. My gosh was that GOOD!

@porwest If it was mixed in with other stuff in a dish or something like that, and nobody told me what it was, I would probably eat it, as long as it tasted good.

@moffittjc I imagine it's probably more of a mind over matter thing than anything. I always think back to beef hearts and the first time I ate one. It was delicious. But once I knew what it was I was horrified and never would eat them ever again.

@porwest here’s a recipe. I would say stomach is similar to tripe, which is used in pho and menudo. You could probably find Mexican recipes as well.

Why'd you put them back? Just because she is revolted by it you should still be able to get it and try it. If I ate pork I'd have gotten the stomachs for sure, regardless of hubby. They look appetizing to me lol. Of course, not in the raw form.
