Changes are coming

The house nextdoor was vacant when we moved in, 8 years ago. I know who owns it, and she had used it to store hers and her mother's things. I peeked in one window once. Things were haphazardly stacked to the ceiling. Her son would come over and mow the front about once a month. Poison ivy was everywhere. A couple of weeks ago Bob said someone pulled up and looked around. Then the mail box on the other side of the street was down, laying in the ditch. He mentioned to the lady that owned it, and she said "It's not mine". For the second time this weekend a pickup is here with a horse trailer. The first time it was nearly dark and there were two or three other vehicles as well. In the daylight Saturday morning you could see a trash dumpster full of pizza boxes, and leaves and vines torn down. I hope they dispose of the poison ivy appropriately. I am nosy enough to want to know what is going on, but not rude enough to go ask them questions. I am assuming they are emptying the house. I hear noises, so I think they are filling this six horse trailer with salvage from inside. They have put up signs saying "private property". Eventually I will know what is happening, I guess. There will be fewer places for stray cats and dogs and local wildlife to hide. I hope in the end things turn out well. There is no way that house is habitable at this time. The garage is about to fall down as well.

Bob went over and visited briefly. I will post about that a little later. It should be okay.

Has it bothered you that they haven’t taken care of it? I know money is always a factor, and not everyone can, but I don’t like it when someone who lives near me lets their place go downhill. Of course, if I know they have no money I stifle that annoyance.

No, it really has not bothered me. It is not like homeless people or drunks have broke in.

Moving the stuff to another storage area maybe, or cleaning out to refurbish house?? Who knows, they could move in the lady and her mom or she could rent the place after renno has been done. Like you say, eventually you will know!!

I hope that is the case then and they either fix it, sell it or demolish it.

@kaylachan I am pretty certain it needs a new roof.

@GardenGerty I wish them luck with that. Depending on the extent of the damage, they might have to deal with the structure first.

I hope nothing happened to the woman and her mom. It's possible they just sold the land and someone is going to tear the old house down and build a new one there.

Actually her mom passed within the last year. The owner is still around and busy in town.

@DaddyEvil The owner was taking care of a sick spouse when we moved in, and he passed. I guess it goes with our age.

Maybe someone has bought the property to tear the house down and rebuild. If so I hope you have good neighbors.

I missed the beginning of the story. But I'm curious as to whether the previous owner is the one who took her and her mother's things or if she sold it ALL to do with what they wanted.

She evidently has sold it all. I have never seen her here. Her son and grand daughter never go inside, but do a little in the yard. I am glad I am not responsible. I have enough junk of my own.

Too much poison ivy on the house. I have never had it and hope to never. It is going to be a long term project, I am sure.

I will just watch from off the property. They posted "no trespassing" plus I am reluctant to get near the poison ivy.

Yes, the explanation is that they will redo the house then move their mother here from Arkansas next spring.

It will be good not to have a house abandoned and uncared for. It is in better shape than some in this town.
