Working on another set of speakers.

These are Acoustic Research AR-4xs from the very early 1970s. I bought some light stain for them today. This will be a quick and dirty restoration. I won't charge much for my work, perhaps $40. I will only have to restore two surfaces. Wish me luck and good color matching.

Matching stain can be very difficult in 50 year old projects. I would assume the moisture content of the wood is low so be careful. It's likely that the applied stain will be absorbed by the wood at an unusually high rate and present darker after application. I have made some mistakes that were time consuming to correct. Partial stain matching can be challenging. I wish you well in this project.

@DaddyEvil Hey! I hope you're doing well. I have had some medical issues and had to have several surgeries beginning in January. My last surgery was a couple of weeks ago and I finally feel well enough to interact with people. Thanks for the warm welcome DE :)

All the best wishes from my end. The name "...Research"... - were these used for some sort of actual research during the 1970s? So were sound speakers common in US in 70s as well? That is a new knowledge for me ! So any other Saturday plans?

I'll be teaching at Guitar Center later this morning. Acoustic Research was one of the best speaker brands in the 1970s.

They are in really nice shape. I will be "minimalist" in my approach to them.

I always hope you have good luck on your restoration projects, pony. Is the stain you bought golden oak?

Good luck making this restoration. Our one speaker that's left is from the early 70s too. Have a good weekend.

@TheHorse As I mentioned before, it's in the corner of a room with a lot of boxes and crap piled up. If we ever clear it out, I will let you know for sure.
