Which Way Do You Face When Riding on a Train?

Side-facing seats on the subway

Do you have a preference, or a need, to face a certain when riding a train? I read that there are some people who need to face forward or they will be very uncomfortable. I thought about it, because I used to ride the train a lot in college, and I was trying to think if I had ever faced backward. In the United States, our passenger trains don't usually have individual compartments (except for the sleeper cars), so most of the seats face forward, except for the one row of seats against the forward wall, which face backward. I don't recall ever sitting in those back-facing seats, but I have ridden a lot on the subway and in buses in the side-facing seats, and that never bothered me. I also used to ride in the bed of our pickup truck with my back against the cab, so I was facing backward, and that never bothered me. I feel like if you face forward, you can see what's coming, but if you face backward, you can look at things longer, and I like that. So if we're ever on a train together and you need to sit facing forward, I'll take the seat across from you!

I like to be facing forward when riding inside of a train.

It probably feels more like making progress and less like being dragged along :)

I used to get bus sick all the time; but riding sideways didn't seem to bother me more. The times I've been on a train I think I faced forward. Would love to take a train ride with you! Hope you are having a good day.

I need to face forward or I get sick. I am fine in he the side-facing-seats in the metro or buses, but the trips are never long inside those public transport. A train ride can be many hours long.

I prefer the seats facing the direction the train is going. Riding backwards make me dizzy.
