And So Thanksgiving Begins

I went turkey hunting last Saturday. There were no early risings, turkey calls, camouflage, or shotguns involved. There was a grocery cart and an open-topped chest freezer. I didn’t head to the deep woods. I found my quarry at our local grocery store. The missus told me to bag a turkey between 13 and 14 pounds. I found a nice bird that weighed in at 13.3 pounds. For those of you who speak metric, that’s about 6 kilos. Said turkey resided in our refrigerator until it was ready to go into the brine. Little known fact: Frozen turkeys may have been in a zero-degree warehouse for as much as 3 years before they reach the market. I picked out the turkey.
