We Now Have HULU

Well, I blame our friend @LindaOHio since she was first to mention that Hulu was running a Black Friday special for Hulu services for 99 cents a month for a year. I won't be too hard on her since my wife and I talked about checking it out before the special came around. We've been considering "cutting the cord" for a while, so we'll see if adding Hulu to our Netflix and Amazon Prime along with the other free services we use is enough to finally do just that. I mean, it's only $12 for a year and my Netflix is $16 a month. So, I can't argue it's not a good deal. Our current cable bill which includes Internet runs us about $226 a month. If we can cut the cable portion our bill would be reduced by $166 a month and I REALLY want to do that. I signed up today. Did anyone else take advantage of the deal? I believe it's good until the 28th if I read the fine print correctly.

I didn't even know about it. I am a parasite on my sister's YouTube TV account and my ex's Netflix. I pay for Amazon Prime. I am considering paying for HBO Max and/or Discovery +. Hulu seems redundant to me if I have YouTube TV.

@porwest I've been very happy with YouTube TV. You can have 5 other people on it (ahem) and it is like $50/month.

@NJChicaa Yeah. I don't do that. Shareholder business type of guy being as I am...ahem. lol. But, $50 seems a bit steep to me. I guess if it was my ONLY service and met ALL my needs maybe it would make sense? If I add up the three we "now" pay for I'm at about $29, and that's including Prime which of course I get all sorts of other perks with it besides the TV part. I REALLY want to get rid of that cable.

I really don't know much about what the service actually offers, but you may be right about comparing it to YouTube TV. We were thinking about it mainly because I THINK you can get local channels on it. But I'm not sure. It will be interesting to see what it does offer over the next 12 months and we'll be able to do it for practically nothing. I think after the 12 months the price will be $8 a month, but I am not for sure about that. I made sure to write down the date we started it, though, so if we decide to cancel it we know when to do it. That all said, it might be worth the $12 to compare it to YouTube TV.

That is great and I hope you enjoy, I was considering this but I have to go into Hulu and see what movies and shows they have, If I am interested I probably will sign up, Even I can afford the .99 cents

Yeah, 99 cents was a bargain for sure, and so far the wife says she really likes it. I think after the trial it goes to $8 a month, which isn't terrible. We pay $16 a month for Netflix.

I have been a Hulu Subscriber for years. So, I pay a monthly price, which is cut in half because I also subscribe to Disney Plus. So, that would be cool, I just missed out on it since I already subscribe to the service.

That's usually how it works. Only new subscribers. Hopefully we will like it. But that's to be seen. It's a REALLY cheap way to try it out though.

@kaylachan I mean, for less than $1 a month? I'm cheap, but that's a bargain.

I am curious how extensive the Hulu service is. I have heard it offers quite a bit. I am hoping it offers enough to actually cut the cord.

Guilty. For me, t was worth more than $.99 per month to re-watch Lost. Have a great week.

@LindaOHio Yeah, we got into I think three seasons of it. It was okay. Not great. But I am curious how they will explain the mystery.

I have thought about watching Lost again. It was such a great show. But I am not sure it would have the same appeal for me the second time around. I guess I could watch and see.

Surely a good savings. A 60 usd savings a month would be amazing hopefully for the same quality of service though.

If I cut cable out I'd save $166 a month. It would definitely be worth it. I'd take my TV bill down to $29 a month from $166. That's pretty massive over a year.

Hubby enjoys our Amazon Prime and does not feel like we need anything else. I seldom if ever watch any of it. That good deal sounded almost tempting though.

For whatever reason Prime didn't offer everything, so we had Netflix. But with the Roku and the now 3 services, with a lot of the free channels we are getting quite a bit of content.

You don't need a cable service to get streaming services. You just need something like a Roku stick or a Smart TV. The ONLY requirement is Internet access. But no cable services necessary. We have At&T Uverse right now.

That Hulu Black Friday deal sounds like a steal! Thanks for sharing it, and kudos to @LindaOHio for bringing it to your attention. Have you already started exploring Hulu's content? Do you have any favorite shows or movies you're looking forward to watching?

We like it so far. I suspect once the trial period is over we'll be keeping it. But it only jumps to about $8 a month, and that's not bad considering we pay twice that for Netflix right now.

Cable companies are TERRIBLE with price hikes. It's insane. If I get the absolute go ahead, which I pretty much have, to cut the cord...it's gone.

@porwest Some seem to switch it on when they get up and then it just stays on. I guess some just like having background noise rather than silence.

@JudyEv Background noise is too distracting for me. I mean, at least when I am "working." But doing stuff around the house or in the yard we usually have some music going.

How long do you have to keep your account after the years time? When we cut the cord in 2017, the only paying streaming service we got was SlingTv and we are happy with it.

The trial or "deal" is for one year. I don't think there are penalties for cancelling early, although I don't know. After the one year you pay about $8 a month. I was going back and forth between Sling and Hulu, but Hulu has always been cheaper. But I don't know how the two services compare honestly.

I don't have cable, I cut that a LONG time ago we don't get on them cable networks, we use youtube that don't cost us a dime & watch all kinds of good flicks & the news (fox) everyday. We learned that when you get onto the cable networks they have you hooked for a contract where they jump their prices every year more than they should have a right to for customers.

My Internet bill is about the same with Spectrum, if you add a home phone and cable to the bundle. I haven't cut the cable yet. I didn't take the deal. But I might consider it.

We currently have U-Verse and with Internet attached to it we pay about $240 a month. It's getting ridiculous, and if we decide to cut the cord, we'd save around $180 a month. It's definitely worth considering for us.
