Day 171 1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life— 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write to you that your joy may be full. 5 This is the message we heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Throughout our lives we witnessed many significant things that caused us to tell others what we saw and heard. When we could touch and handle those things, it made it more amazing. John was an apostle of Jesus Christ. He walked and talked with Him for three years. He saw the miracles, he touched Him, lying on His breast at the Last Supper. He witnessed His death and resurrection. Therefore, he could write about what he saw and said that what he wrote would bring joy to those who read his epistle. He declared the righteousness of Jesus Christ and said darkness didn’t reside in Him because He was light. John told how he walked in His light and had fellowship with Him. Then John told the people Jesus’ blood cleansed them from sin. He said if they believed they didn’t sin, they were in darkness, and truth could not abide in them. When Christians live in the truth of God’s Word, they become witnesses to the miracles in their lives. They see how Jesus heals them, provides for them, and cleanses them from sin when they confess their sins to Him. However, when Christians doubt what their eyes see, darkness clouds their vision and God’s truth isn’t in them. How can a person claim to be a Christian and doubt God’s Word? Doubting God, makes Him out to be a liar, and His Word isn’t in them. Jesus told His disciples He was the truth, and His truth would set them free. John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Satan causes Christians to doubt what their eyes and ears see and hear. He wants you to doubt. He wants you to deny Him. When you reject Satan’s ploys to cast doubt on what you see and hear, God’s truth lives in you and you will know Jesus is the light, your salvation, your everything. When you confess your sin, He will cleanse you from sin, forgive you, and bring you back into fellowship with Him. What have your eyes and ears seen and heard? Let people know what God has done for you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Jesus and the salvation You provided through Him. Let me proclaim what He did for me in saving me from my sin and cleansing me from my unrighteousness. Thank you that I am free to have fellowship with You because I walk in the light of His love. Let me show His love to everyone I meet. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 4 January 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

I like the idea of truth setting us free. Otherwise, we remain captured by the non-truths of the devil, and of sin in us too. We need forgiveness from our sins, and then the truth in us, plus the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will then help us to not sin anymore either.
