Fosse Dionne in France.

Yesterday I went down a bit of a rabbit hole (Or was it a frog hole?) reading about the Fosse Dionne in France. It's a water source that has only been partially mapped because the caves beneath it are extensive but also very dangerous. Two attempts to map it in the 70s and 90s ended with the deaths of divers. Only recently, with more modern diving set ups, has there been more exploration. Centuries ago it was a spring in a very boggy area until a monk, St. Jean de Rèome, dedided to clean up the spring in the 7th Century by digging it out and killing a Basilisk he found there (that's his story). Later it was used for drinking water and washing water and in the 18th Century a Lavoir (community laundry) was built around it. The more recent explorations have still not found the source or mapped out the extent of the cave system. Perhaps it will keep it's secrets for a few more centuries.

Thanks for sharing with us the history of Fosse Dione. It's my first time to know about it.
