Retirees, your opinion, please

February 8, 2024 3:34am CST
Are you enjoying your first week of retirement? Will you be looking forward to the following days and weeks as a retired-from-work person? Will you be picking up some part-time work once you realized there's nothing left to do, besides travelling and holidaying... and not sleeping-- preoccupied with a 'project/s' you had been wanting to do for a long time before retirement? The reason why I'm asking is that, my husband, 67, wants to stop working and enter retirement. He resents me for hinting to him to hold on to his job for a bit longer. We still have two kids at home (20, 18) but both working.

He's the head of your home. If it's time for him to retire, you should support him. I've been retired for many years now and totally enjoy the freedom of not going to work every day.

@just4him I agree. But apparently, God still wants him there: of which he is very grateful for.

@everwonderwhy If it's God's will for him to continue, he'll know. The benefits for staying look good, but are they what God wants for him? Remember, Satan packages his desires in pretty packages, making it difficult to hear God's voice. Take time to be quiet before the Lord, and you will both hear His voice on the matter.

@just4him My husband believes it is, Val, considering our situation and intimate relationship with God our Father and with each other. All the "gifts" are gifts from above, King and Creator of the universe. Yes, we wait patiently on the LORD-- meekly and humbly. And in our lives for 38 years, God has proven His plan and purposes, grace and faithfulness in our life together. "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above , coming down from the Father of lights , with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow." Janes 1:17 WMB

I'm sorry your husband resents you for telling him to delay retiring. I think it's not bad to retire if you got everything figured out. Is he entitled to a pension?

Yes, he is. But as much as possible, we avoid government handouts. He's topping up superannuation, though, in preparation for retirement.

@everwonderwhy 65 is the age limit for working and it's also the retirement age in My country. So your husband at 67 makes me understand why he wants to retire. Maybe he is very tired. But I hope you two will reach an agreement.
