What do you do with random stuff you just can’t throw out?

I hate to throw things away. Anything at all useful, if I don’t keep it in case I need it, I try to pass on to someone else who needs one. Anything in good condition and popular (like clothes or crockery) I donate to a charity shop. More obscure items like vintage handkerchiefs or old tools I offer for sale on eBay. Old clothes or furnishings that are worn out I try to make into something else. Totally random things I give away on Freegle. And then I’m left with things that I can’t use and they are no use to anyone else either, nobody would buy them and yet they are not actually broken…like this old plate. It’s probably getting on for 100 years old (it came from my great-aunt and uncle who died in the 1970s), the glaze is all cracked so no-one would want to use it for food and it probably wouldn’t withstand washing in hot water, it’s got no maker’s mark so it isn’t a valuable antique, and yet it’s still an intact and in a way, quite pleasing plate. In the end I hit on the idea of hanging it on the wall. I think it’s quite attractive and adds a bit of character. What do you do with random bits and bobs? It looks perfect there. I have trouble throwing things out too. I have given things to thrift stores or charity shops as you call them. I've given them away. Or they remain in my storage closet waiting for the day I will use them again.

The longer you keep things, the harder it is to throw them out I find!

@Fleura It's very true. I noticed that I am attached to some of my things.

It is pretty. I am getting better at throwing things out or donating them and letting that place decide

I couldn't do that with questionable things, I know they would just go straight in the bin : (

Your plate looks really lovely on the wall. I have a plastic tub of things I can't throw out but it's mostly for sentimental reasons. Otherwise i do what you do and try to find new homes or other uses for them. We needed a small piece of flat steel the other day and would have had no trouble finding a piece at our old home. This time, we had to rat Vince's brothers scrap heap.

The plate looks lovely on the wall. I give just about everything to charity. I've even started passing along some collectibles to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Have a good day. Your plate could still be attractive to someone without a maker's mark.

That plate looks good there. I tend to hang on to things, too, even some broken things because I love them. But I'm trying to get rid of things, too. It's not easy.

It looks pretty where it is. I prefer to donate everything I can that I do not use. Aging, I want to get rid of plenty of things.
