Short story: Love from the heart must always be placed before thoughts of the mind

Never let anything close you off from your heart

John Duffman, was a fledgling monk in the order of Zen Buddhism, known as the Rinzai school. The old Zen master, Artop Ripoche, told him to go out, and sit on a large rock in the courtyard, and meditate there, and so he did so. As he was quietly engaged in his meditating there, somebody came along, and tapped him on the shoulder. John ignored the tapping, until, it became stronger, and so he then opened his eyes, and said to the man tapping him, “Can’t you see that I am meditating, according to my master’s instructions.” The man replied, “Nothing should ever so remove you from the world that you are still not connected to it, and aware of any reason for the connection, not even your meditations.” “I was sent by your master just now to ascertain what your response would be to an interruption to your meditating. Meditation should not wrap you up in your head, closing you off to your heart.” The man continued. “The soul that you are can be brought into your mind by meditating, but the love that is in your heart must remain there at all times, and not be removed by the meditating mind at any time, as love always trumps mind in all aspects of living.” “Oh, thanks,” said the student. “I will keep that in mind, and in my heart too.” And so, the other man then walked off, and left the student to continue in his meditating. Wise words indeed. The balance between meditation and connection is key.

@innertalks I understand what you are saying perfectly..prayer is a must..meditation is a trance sometimes, not connected to God.

@RebeccasFarm Yes, meditation does tend to quieten and slow down our mind, sometimes, though, and if I have trouble getting to sleep, I might still chant a word sometimes, to help me to turn my mind off, and slow it down to get to sleep. Prayer, connects us to God though, through our heart, but meditation, more just works with our mind alone.

@innertalks How do a few meditators' demeanor stop you from meditating? I couldn't get it. They might not be following the proper process. Meditation makes one feel fresh and more alive. A guide might help, I feel. There are lots of guided meditation techniques on YouTube.

I have heard of some distancing themselves from the physical world in the evening of their lives. They prefer to cut themselves from the daily news which is more to distract them from the connection of mind with the heart. I read the news headlines and leave the details. The actors change but the behavior is repeated over generations - a few out to fool the rest. It only serves to leave a bad taste in the mouth of the innocent and their helplessness to stem the rot.

I like to listen to the news, as I like to be informed as to what is happening in the world. The climate of the world, in the way things are happening, helps us to understand God, more too, as he is behind most, really all, things happening, in one way, or another. All must be a part of his plan, in some entangled way, as if it wasn't, and things could happen unplanned by God, in the world, what hope would we have then. God would be a legless God.

@Shiva49 Yes, God might be an old God now, but his teeth must still be in perfect condition, so eventually, he will bite us all awake again. God cannot be toothless, and remain God.

@innertalks With the goings on and the brinkmanship nearing a total holocaust, one wonders why our creator is hands-off or even toothless. I do believe though there will be ultimate justice for all.
