Day 47 – Prophecy and Blessing Genesis 49:1 Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather together, so that I may tell you what will befall you in the last days. 2 Gather together and hear, you sons of Jacob, and listen to Israel your father. 3 “Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power. 4 Unstable as water, you will not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it. He went up to my couch. 5 “Simeon and Levi are brothers; instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place. 6 Let not my soul enter their council; let not my honor be united to their assembly; for in their anger, they slew a man, and in their self-will, they hamstrung an ox. 7 Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. 8 “Judah, you are he whom your brothers will praise; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s children will bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who will rouse him? 10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh (Messiah) comes; and to Him will be the obedience of the people. 11 Binding his donkey to the vine, and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. 12 His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk. 13 “Zebulun will dwell by the haven of the sea; he will become a haven for ships, and his border will adjoin Sidon. 14 “Issachar is a strong donkey, lying down between two burdens; 15 he saw that rest was good, and that the land was pleasant; he bowed his shoulder to bear a burden, and became a band of slaves. 16 “Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan will be a serpent, a viper by the path, which bites the horse’s heels so that its rider will fall backward. 18 I have waited for your salvation (Y@shuw`ah, Yesh-oo'-aw), O LORD (Jehovah)! 19 “Gad, a troop will tramp upon him, but he will triumph at last. 20 “Bread from Asher will be rich, and he will yield royal dainties. 21 “Naphtali is a deer let loose; he uses beautiful words. 22 “Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a well; his branches run over the wall. 23 The archers have bitterly grieved him, shot at him, and hated him. 24 But his bow remained in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty God (Elohiym) of Jacob (from there is the Shepherd (Ra`ah, raw-aw), the Stone (Eben, eh'-ben) of Israel), 25 By the God (El) of your father who will help you, and by the Almighty (Shadday) who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb. 26 The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They will be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. 27 “Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he will devour the prey, and at night he will divide the spoil.” 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. He blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing. 29 Then he charged them and said to them, “I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite as a possession for a burial place. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the cave that is there were purchased from the sons of Heth.” 33 When Jacob had finished commanding his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people. God’s name: LORD – Jehovah Elohiym – Mighty God El – God God’s character: Yeshuwah – Salvation Shiloh – Messiah Ra’ah – Shepherd Eben – Stone Shadday – Almighty Children want their parents to think well about them. However, you know it doesn't often happen. Children know who the favorite son or daughter is, even though parents tell their children they have no favorite. Children also want their parents to bless them. That too does not happen often. Blessings often feel like curses instead. Jacob blessed his children. As he blessed them, he also prophesied over them, telling them what they would be like in the last days. As Jacob blessed them, you see Elohiym’s character. He called Him Shiloh, Messiah; Ra’ah, Shepherd; Eben, Stone; Shadday, Almighty. All these characteristics are found in Jesus. Christians call Him the Good Shepherd. You know Him as your salvation, Messiah, stone, and Almighty God. John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” (NKJV) Matthew 21:42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’S (Jehovah’s) doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” Isaiah 28:16 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily.” Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. You see His Name and His character bound up in the person of Jesus Christ, your Messiah. You know these verses. You bring them out during the Christmas season; whenever you witness to others about who Jesus is; or to impress fellow Christians with your Bible knowledge. However, how often do you see Yeshuwa as your cornerstone or shepherd? You know He is your Messiah, but do you see Him as Mighty God, or do you only give that quality to Elohiym? What did Yeshuwa tell the people? John 10:30 “I and My Father are one.” (NKJV) You cannot separate Elohiym. He is three persons in one. Jesus told His disciples when they saw Him, they saw the Father. John 14:8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.” In giving the blessings and prophecies to his children, Jacob proclaimed the name and character of Elohiym. When you bless your children, do you bless them in Elohiym’s name and character? Do you bless your children, or do you leave the blessing out of their daily lives? Children feel special when you bless them and think well of them. If you haven’t blessed your children, start today. Let them know they are special to you and to Elohiym. Let’s pray: Father, let me know Your blessing in my life and let me give Your blessing to my children. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. In this day, and age, not many fathers bless their children like that. My father never blessed me. Jacob never minced his words here, and told his sons the truth of what he thought about them, their lives, how they lived them, and what their futures would hold too. Not many fathers could do that these days, nor would try to, I think too.

I think the Jewish people still do. It's why they're so blessed as a nation. No, he didn't mince words with the blessings he gave each of his sons. Have a blessed day.

Isaiah 9:6 is my favorite too. I love John 10:30. If God will bless me with children, I will always bless them.
