Day 48 – Forgiveness Genesis 50:15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.” 16 So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died, he commanded, saying, 17 ‘Thus you will say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.’” Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God (Elohiym) of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers also went and fell before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God (Elohiym)? 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God (Elohiym) meant it for good, to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21 Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” He comforted them and spoke kindly to them. 22 So Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's household. Joseph lived one hundred and ten years. 23 Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were also brought up on Joseph’s knees. 24 Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but God (Elohiym) will visit you and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will visit you, and you will carry up my bones from here.” 26 So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. God’s name: Elohiym – Mighty God Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Savior Forgiver You often hear about squabbles between children after their parents die. They contest their will and make claims their parents never intended. Israel was dead and buried, Joseph’s brothers went to him, claiming their father demanded he forgive them for what they did to him. Joseph laid their fears to rest. He told them that the harm they intended against him when they sold him into Egypt, Elohiym meant for good to save them and make them a nation as they were that day. Then there was peace between Joseph and his brothers. Joseph lived to the age of one hundred and ten. He made his brethren swear to carry his bones back to Canaan when Elohiym brought them from Egypt back to the land Elohiym promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. When Joseph died, he had been in Egypt for ninety-three years preparing for what Elohiym intended for His people—to make them a great nation and save them. He didn’t know when Elohiym would bring them out of Egypt, so he told his brethren to make certain his bones returned to Canaan. What is Elohiym preparing to do through you? Do you need to forgive people to bring about Elohiym’s best for you? In the Sermon on the Mount, Yeshuwa made it plain how Elohiym would treat you when you forgive people who wronged you, and what He would do if you did not forgive them. Matthew 5:23 “Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and remember your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift before the altar, and go your way. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (NKJV) Joseph showed forgiveness to his brothers. In the same way, you need to forgive those who wrong you. When you do, Elohiym will forgive you and clear you of any wrongdoing. Harboring a grudge against anyone is a sin against Elohiym. Forgive, and Elohiym will forgive you. Joseph’s brothers could live in peace when he forgave them for what they did to him. Are you ready for a life of peace? Forgive. Let’s pray: Father, show me who I need to forgive to receive Your forgiveness and live in peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 6 March 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

I always pray to God and ask him to forgive me of any unforgiveness and confess that I forgive anyone who might have offended me. I always try to be at peace with everyone even if they might not reciprocate it. Joseph was very forgiving and I would like to imitate his character. Thank you for the bible study.

A life of peace would be a great life for us all to aspire to live to. With God on our side, we are well placed for this life of peace to be so, as was Joseph, here.

Some people cannot be forgiven; not by mere mortals

The consequence of unforgiveness is eternal separation from God. Everyone can forgive and be forgiven.
