Last Saturday, I accompanied the 50 odd children of our foster care institute to Mayapur ISKCON temple. We made the trip in our school bus. Thus, it was a journey comfortable enough. I had been there about 25 years ago. Since then the holy place has been through a huge huge development. New buildings and temples have risen and the campus has expanded greatly. What impressed me most is that quite a good number of foreigners ( visible because of their fair skin, forgive me if it sounds rude). It's interesting to see them in traditional Indian attire, men in dhoti kurta , women in saree blouse, ghaghra choli) going about their jobs. Many of them are seen hiding their one hand in a small bag turning their rosary of 108 beads. We also found them singing kirtan . No doubt, with so many foreigner devotees joining funds are flowing and it is seen in the development work. Another good thing that impressed me was that though there was a huge crowd there the atmosphere was devotional. I didn't see anyone yelling at anyone or quarrelling with anyone.

Those who take worship seriously will put aside personal differences for the sake of the service. People in general just know some places, there's just some things you don't do.

You're right, there are some this you don't do in such places. But this is India where you never know when unexpected things happen.

@franxav Then you should come to the U.S. it's unpredictability on steroids. Due in large part to our union of culture. It's hard to say what is, or isn't 'Americian' anymore.

That's good to hear that the atmosphere was devotional. Sometimes these places become very commercialised.

Outside the temple area business is flourishing. Hotels, lodges, transport (taxis, autorickshaws, battery run tricycles) are seen in large numbers).

Agree. A temple is under construction which they say will be largest in Asia.

ISKCON temples everywhere have a very serene and divine atmosphere. I have been to few of them and they all are neatly maintained. The ambience is very good and one gets positive vibes there. I hope that the children also enjoyed it.
