Busy as a Beaver!

This is a trying week! I had to take one of the daughters (the one with no car) to the doctor yesterday (Monday) in Baton Rouge. She had an appointment with asthma/allergy specialist. They did one of the asthma tests on her. The other one required machine that had broken earlier that morning. So she will have that test on her next appointment in 6 weeks. Next she had her allergy tests and all of those came back with no big markers. She did have an anxiety attack right after the testing and they checked her over to make sure her throat wasn't closing and checked her vital signs. Her blood pressure was up, but her throat was clear. They gave her an antihistamine to help with the itching and to try to relax her. Her doctor send her to the lab for a blood draw to test via blood since no markings showed up. Mind you she has a phobia with needles and just encountered around 90 sticks with needles. She did very good during testing. However, she got a lab tech that wasn't very nice or good at what she was doing. My daughter asked for pediatric needle which her doctor advised years ago. The tech told her she didn't have one. What? You don't draw blood on any kids here? I don't believe that! So she proceeds and can't find the vein. She tried 4 times on that arm and asked for the other arm. At that point I would have demanded another tech! But my daughter just wanted it to be over with and sat through 4 more sticks on her other arm. She ended up passing out, even though she was lying down. We were always told you can't pass out lying down. But the tech woke her up by popping her hands and telling her to wake up. She told her to stay lying down for a few minutes to make sure she was alright and then left the room. Since she didn't come back after 15 minutes to check on her, my daughter got up and left. She came out of the lab crying. We had one more stop to make to get her new medicine and then drop her off and get home. It was a long day. And I was scheduled to work at the boutique on Tuesday. I had swapped my Wednesday for a Tuesday this week with another worker needing off on Tuesday. How was your Monday? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

I would call and report that horrible person. They need to know; your poor, sweet daughter! My Monday was mostly spent traveling, but yesterday (Tuesday) was a great first day of vacation.

That is what I advised her to do and to also leave a review of her experience there for the public to read. Oh vacation! Are you going on a trip?

I am upset for your daughter. She has the right to talk to a supervisor. I am needle phobic also. I can't imagine going through that nastiness with any grace and I don't think a person should have to. That tech needs a good talking to.

I told her to call and ask for supervisor and inform her of what happened. That tech needs a stern warning!

@kareng That nasty encounter could set your daughter back years when it comes to needles.

@sallypup She was just getting to the point to where she could go in by herself. She is in her mid 30's. I know this encounter will have her putting off future bloodwork needed. No doubt about that.

I would have immediately asked for another tech. It is clearly a lie that she had no pediatric needle, so that is one of those rude persons who do not care of people. REPORT that person!

@kareng - Those nurses should never be allowed to be with a patient alone, they are dangerous.

I would have demanded the pediatric needle and a new technician. I need a small needle too. I'm sorry your daughter went through so much trauma yesterday.

I think she will remember to throw a fit next time some rude tech tries to just speed through her job.

@kareng I don't blame her there, I've had a few issues like that but NOT that bad, my dr knows my veins aren't like they use to be after I came out of the hosp cause of all the injections I've been through in the 6 mons I was down.

Your poor daughter. That was very bad treatment but the tech. I guess maybe it does more harm than good to complain.

We will never go back to that location. However, they have several locations all over the city so the bad one could get transferred or move to another one.
