What a way to start a day.

Good afternoon. I didn't even make my first post until until now. And, it's not from a lack of trying. We had a bit of a rough night, the smoke dector chirped a handful of times. It's quite now, but it's still annoying it happened at all. On top of that, George didn't get to bed until around six AM, when I kind of pushed the issue. Sunrise in this house can be blinding, because of the window placment. Not that we're complaining about the natural light. Just, the living room isn't exactly the ideal place for sleeping. We made it work though.

Glad you made it work. Speaking of smoke detectors..the 'unwell' guy that lives right nextdoor to me (apartments connected) took his smoke detector down at 3 in the morning as it was chirping..instead of changing the battery..he threw it outside in front of my apartment..it chirped for days on end.

Wouldn't that go against code?

@BearArtistLady I'm surprised he didn't get evicted for that bs. I almost miss Apartment living because of little things like this, but I'm also happy to be in my own house and not have to worry about making rent.

Oh I hate those kind of neighbors!!!! Like it's our responsibility to change the battery for them! I'm not too sure how my smoke detector is connected, but I can't do stir fry in the apartment without it going off and a voice starts yelling "SMOKE"! It's up high enough that I can't reach it to remove the battery or disable it so I can cook in peace. I had a neighbor that pulled the same stunt with their smoke detector, throwing it in front of my apartment. I took a stickey note and wrote the apartment number on it and dropped it in front of the apartment manager's apartment at 2 a.m. the next morning. It left the guy in a horrible position, he started to say he left it in front of my place at 3 a.m., but that would get him in trouble...and I had mine all in place. The manager toured my apartment and saw that they were...and he was missing one. Boy did he get chewed out!!! He apologized a couple of days later. It wasn't worth the price of a battery to get in so much trouble!

I know how tough that can be, I hope George did get some sleep. I hope despite the late start you are having a good afternoon and will all have a good evening and a nice stat to the new week, I though rain was coming but haven't seen a drop yet,

We got some yesterday, but it didn't last long. George slept better than I did. So, I'm thankful for that.

@kaylachan We not only got rain, but the elevator isn't working properly. We have to use the stairs. It's a bit hard on those of us who really are NOT supposed to use the stairs going in either direction. The only thing that gets to reside on the first floor is the cars. Then the second floor is the first floor of people's apartments and the third floor is for the second floor of residents too. Thank goodness that there are only the three floors! It's hard for people to grasp when you try to tell them that you live in a "200" numbered apartment and it's on the third floor of the elevator. They act like you've flipped your lid! LOL

What a way to start the day for sure. I do hope you both got a little sleep. It's rough trying to do the things you need to accomplish when you haven't had enough sleep.

@kaylachan .......My family(daughter, grandson, and myself) all get more sleep than the norm due to our mental issues. When I was a teenager I could sleep for 12-15 hours a day on some weekends. Depression is not fun. Takes a lot of life away.

@celticeagle I know some people who have those same issues, and while they share the symptom of exhaustion they also suffer insane insominia.

I know what you mean. I can't fuction on almost no sleep. But according to my Apple Watch I got my 5 hours and did okay. I feel alright so I'd say my Apple Watch isn't far off the mark.

I hope you can find the offending smoke detector and change the battery! I hate the fact that they somehow never seem to get a low battery until you’re in bed at 3 AM. They never chirp and say “time to change the battery” when you’re having lunch!

We bought smoke detectors with non-user replacable batteries. Even if we had the ones that you could charge and change the battery, I can't reach it from the floor, and George's not quite comfortable on a step lader. We think it's the one in the bedroom, If it becomes continious, I'll see if I can get a neighbor to help us. I don't want George climbing up on the step ladder if he's not confident or comfortable.

@kaylachan — VERY smart move on your part! And I love those “ten year battery” detectors that die after three or four years.

@FourWalls Yeah, best-case senerio when they make the 10-year claim. I'd rather replace one every three-four years, then deal with batteries every few months. Because I may not be able to find help.

Those stupid things...someone needs to invent better ones than what are available. They never, ever start chirping unless it's the middle of the night! At least, mine do not. Our maintenance man checks ours out every 3 months, and yet they still die on us. So very annoying! I am sorry, it didn't make for a very restful night for you.

It did it like three or four times and was quiet. So, I don't know what happened. It's quiet now. What annoys me, is by law, they have to be placed in the celing. But, that makes them difficult to service. Especially when you're a blind cripple.

@kaylachan I know what you mean, it's hard to access them. I appreciate that we have them available if they are needed, but I do wish they didn't have to go off and beep endlessly in the middle of the night!
